The work involves performing a variety of tasks connected with the collection, folding and distribution of linen and/or personal laundry at Long-Term Care Facility of the Erie County Medical Center Corporation. The incumbent performs numerous laboring and record keeping tasks in the laundry function. The work is performed under the direct supervision of a higher ranking employee. Supervision is not a function of this position. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Picks up soiled linen from various departments and buildings either by hand or by cart and takes them to the linen distribution area for processing;
Unloads linen delivery trucks and delivers linen to distribution area;
Unpacks linen bins and assembles linen exchange carts based on par levels for each user area;
Sorts linens into various classifications;
Inspects for stains or torn items;
Folds gowns, scrubs, towels and other various classifications of linens and garments by hand;
Delivers exchange carts to various areas throughout the facility;
Distributes and collects all clean linens throughout the facility;
Collects soiled linen in covered bins throughout the facility to the soiled hold area;
Performs general upkeep of the exchange carts on the units as well as in the linen distribution area;
Receives and prepares check lists of soiled and clean linens for various departments of the facility;
Takes telephone requests for linen as needed by the user area;
Assists with general housekeeping of a large linen distribution area;
Maintains records.
IN ADDITION, IF ASSIGNED PERSONAL LAUNDRY:
Obtains soiled garments from households/units as scheduled;
Washes and dries garments as per regulations;
Folds or hangs garments properly and returns to correct unit;
Labels new garments properly with resident name.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Good knowledge of and techniques for sorting, folding, collecting and distributing large quantities of linens and garments; good knowledge of different types of linens and garments; working knowledge of linen supplies used in a hospital or clinical setting; ability to pull full linen bins and exchange carts; ability to perform heavy and light laboring tasks; ability to perform a variety of laundry work tasks; ability to fold, lift, bend, squat, pull and push; ability to communicate effectively; ability to maintain records; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions; ability to read, write and understand English; capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
