Primary Responsibilities
HDR is looking for an energetic, team-oriented, creative landscape/urban Design Intern to join our Urban Planning, Planning, & Landscape Architecture (UDPLA) Studio in Omaha. The position would begin in January 2024 and run through at least May. Our design teams work with a diverse range of clients to create vibrant places ranging from master-planned neighborhoods, public parks, plazas and streetscapes to health, education, science and technology campuses. The right candidate will have completed at least their third year in an accredited program, must be self-motivated and be able to work independently, as well as with a project team to complete these tasks. The successful candidate would augment and collaborate with a growing team of designers.
Work responsibilities include assisting landscape architects and urban designers in our team with:
- Participate in design workshops, public facilitation, and concept development for a wide-range of urban design, master planning, and landscape architecture projects
- Development of site design projects from concept development through construction documentation
- Creating diagrams and illustrative analysis and concept drawings using 3D and 2D digital illustration tools, free-hand drawing and color rendering
- Collaborating with architects, planners, engineers and other site-based disciplines on institutionally-scaled design and planning projects
- Collaborating with others on public input sessions, programming, and design implementation of master plans
Required Qualifications
Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate degree student in a landscape architecture major in an accredited university program
Technical skills should include proficiency with AutoCAD and 3D modeling / rendering programs (such as Rhino, VRay, Sketchup and/or Lumion) and Adobe Creative Suite (particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign)
Excellent communication, time management, graphic and organizational skills
Understanding of the fundamentals of the full range of design phases including site analysis, site planning, grading and drainage, conceptual development, construction documentation
Attention to detail and strong problem-solving and communication skills
ArcGIS, Grasshopper and/or Revit knowledge are desirable but not essential
Desire to work in landscape architecture/urban design environment upon graduation
Preferred Qualifications
Preference given to local candidates
Consideration may be given to candidates seeking 6-8 month extended internships
At least 4 semesters completed in major
2.9 GPA
