Landscaper

Job Description Summary

Full time landscape position. Experienced required in all aspects of property maintenance and equipment operation. Must have valid driver’s license and transportation. Serving commercial properties in Eastern Massachusetts. Positions available immediately.

Required Physical Abilities

Grounds keeping work by its nature requires physical abilities to include lifting up to 50 lbs regularly. Full dexterity is required.

  • Manual Dexterity — The ability to quickly grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Substantial lifting (up to 50 pounds) is required
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended or continuous periods of time
  • Ability to quickly bend, stretch, twist, or reach out
  • Ability to ascend and descend staircases, ladders, and/or step stools
  • Ability to operate applicable hand tools, power tools, and equipment
  • Previous experience in landscaping or groundskeeping a plus
  • Must pass background check
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Must have valid driver’s license
  • Able to work independently
  • Must be able to operate lawn maintenance equipment such as lawnmowers, string trimmers, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, tractors, twin-axle vehicles, snow blowers, chainsaws, electric clippers, sod cutters, or pruning saws, etc.
  • Operate push or riding lawnmowers; may operate heavier tractor equipment if needed
  • Change mower belts and sharpen blades
  • Water all plants and lawn, and ensure all plants are evenly covered
  • Spread plant food, mulch, and other materials around plants
  • Remove weeds and dead plants; prune overgrown limbs and leaves
  • Operate string trimmer and edger to remove overgrowth and keep outdoor area tidy
  • Use leaf blower to clear walkways and pedestrian areas after lawn maintenance
  • Treat lawn and landscaping with pesticides to remove harmful insects
  • Maintain the existing landscaping design and ensure plant survival
  • Plant new flowers, bushes, plants, and decorative shrubs
  • Rake and blow fallen leaves and remove debris
  • Keep pedestrian areas removed of snow and ice
  • Remove tree limbs, overgrowth, and other hazards
  • Ensure outdoor furniture, décor, and lighting is maintained and good working order
  • Use hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge or brush trimmers, or axes.
  • Properly store and handle all equipment, tools, sprinklers, etc.
  • Oversee maintenance repairs to equipment, landscape structures, and hardscape walkways
  • Operate heavier snow blowers or other equipment as needed
  • Shovel and sand walkways for Snow.
  • Gather and remove litter.
  • Use hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge or brush trimmers, or axes.
  • Water lawns, trees, or plants, using portable sprinkler systems, hoses, or watering cans.
  • Prune or trim trees, shrubs, or hedges, using shears, pruners, or chain saws.
  • Care for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch, or trimming or edging around flower beds, walks, or walls.
  • Follow planned landscaping designs to determine where to lay sod, sow grass, or plant flowers or foliage.
  • Trim or pick flowers and clean flower beds.
  • Attach wires from planted trees to support stakes.
  • Plant seeds, bulbs, foliage, flowering plants, grass, ground covers, trees, or shrubs and apply mulch for protection, using gardening tools.
  • Decorate gardens with stones or plants.
  • Use irrigation methods to adjust the amount of water consumption and to prevent waste.
  • Provide proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters, burial sites, or other grounds features.
  • Shovel snow from walks, driveways, or parking lots and spread salt in those areas.
  • Maintain irrigation systems, including winterizing the systems and starting them up in spring.
  • Plan or cultivate lawns or gardens.
  • Maintain or repair tools, equipment, or structures, such as buildings, greenhouses, fences, or benches, using hand or power tools.
  • Care for artificial turf fields, periodically removing the turf and replacing cushioning pads or vacuuming and disinfecting the turf after use to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria.
  • Install rock gardens, ponds, decks, drainage systems, irrigation systems, retaining walls, fences, planters, or playground equipment.
  • Care for natural turf fields, making sure the underlying soil has the required composition to allow proper drainage and to support the grasses used on the fields.
  • Advise customers on plant selection or care.
  • Haul or spread topsoil or spread straw over seeded soil to hold soil in place.
