Essential Functions:
This position reviews and processes all Land Records documents presented for recording, including, but not limited to, deeds, mortgages, releases, agreements, plats, liens, military discharges, etc. The incumbent will also process and maintain marriage licenses, business licenses, and notaries. The incumbent will additionally serve as a cashier for all monetary transactions.
Process Land Records ? Review, record, verify, and index documents. Return unrecordable documents with notifications when necessary. Calculate correct taxes and fees.
License ? Process and maintain all marriage licenses, business licenses, and notaries.
Liens ? Enter, satisfy, and release judgements.
Assist Customers ? Provide information and procedures while not giving legal advice. Provide appropriate resources to further help customers.
Cashier ? Process all money received in the clerk?s office, over the counter and electronically. Run end of day report to balance monies. Keep proper records for audits.
Education:
High School diploma (or GED equivalent).
Experience:
One (1) year of general clerical experience.
Note:
A Bachelor?s Degree may substitute the required work experience.
A Paralegal/Associates Degree or 60 college credits may substitute the required work experience.
A Paralegal Certificate may substitute the required work experience.
Knowledge of:
Knowledge of office practices, procedures, and equipment.
Knowledge of standard legal forms and documents used in the Judiciary.
Knowledge of basic English and arithmetic to include, but not limited to, spelling, punctuation, grammar, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Skill in:
Oral and written communication skills to include basic English and arithmetic. These skills are to include spelling, punctuation, grammar, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Applying job-related terminology, codes, policies, rules, regulations, and laws.
Technology skills for daily computer and office equipment usage as well as recording equipment.
Analyzing legal property documents, records, reports, and other documents and noting details and facts pertinent to the assignment.
Ability to:
Operate standard office and business equipment including, but not limited to, a computer including software, copier, scanner, fax machine, cash register, and any other equipment required to support the work of the Department.
Multitask and prioritize duties and tasks.
Be accurate and pay attention to detail.
Communicate effectively, professionally, clearly, and tactfully both written and verbal.
Understand court procedures.
Interpret documents, Statutes, and Rules.
Type at a proficient speed.
Make quick decisions and work within time constraints.
Understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions and protocols for any given assignment.
Understand legal terminology.
Properly calculate taxes and fees for documents.
