Summary:
The Janitor at the NIH Campus in Bethesda, Maryland, building 11, will provide cleaning services to maintain a safe, orderly, and professional work environment. The role will also involve moving boxes and equipment around the maintenance building, including navigating stairs as needed.
Responsibilities:

• Disinfect and dust surfaces and fixtures
• Clean floors, carpets, walls, windows, glass, and outside hard surface areas.
• Empty wastebaskets and remove trash from inside and outside areas
• Respond to custodial work orders promptly and efficiently
• Practice environmentally friendly cleaning techniques
• Adhere to local, state, and federal regulations on cleaning solutions and disposal
• Move boxes and equipment within the NIH maintenance building, including up and down stairs
• Perform other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications:

• No prior experience or training required, though it is preferred
• Must pass suitability determination for unescorted facility access by the Office of Personnel Management
• Must pass a favorable background criminal history check by name and date of birth from the State of Residence

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

• Standing, walking, using hand and finger dexterity, climbing, balancing, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crawling regularly
• Talking or hearing frequently
• Exposure to wet/humid conditions, moving machinery, fumes, airborne particles, or toxic chemicals occasionally
• Regular exposure to outside weather conditions
• Occasional lifting and moving of up to 40 pounds
• Occasionally handles items weighing up to 100 pounds.
• Work environment noise level is typically quiet
