Summary:
Lab Technician is responsible for accessioning and aliquoting of urinalysis specimen by performing the duties outlined below as well as assisting other laboratory staff in performing their duties and carrying on the necessary functions required in accordance with Arizona Pain established policies and procedures.
Key Functions & Responsibilities:
• Sample accessioning and aliquoting.
• Sample validity checks and sample disposal.
• Follows all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), safety and security policies, use SOP manuals as reference to support work performed. Completes all necessary paperwork related to job duties.
• Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling/processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
• Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
• Organize work by matching computer orders with specimen labeling; sorting specimens; checking labeling; logging specimens.
• Input all patient test results into EMR, identify and communicate abnormal patient conditions by alerting supervisory personnel and noting in EMR.
• Assisting with or performing sample confirmation testing.
• Maintain patient confidence by keeping laboratory information confidential.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) from four-year College in a scientific field required.
• 1 Year or more related laboratory experience preferred.
• Ability to understand and follow both written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to prepare and keep accurate records.
• Ability to work within and reliably maintain an assigned work schedule that meets company needs.
• General knowledge of laboratory procedures preferred.
• Knowledge of simple laboratory techniques such as aliquoting, pipetting, etc. preferred.
• Understanding of appropriate precautions for the handling of biological specimens.
• Understanding of lab calculations preferred.
• Knowledge of laboratory terminology. The ability to understand and use the Laboratory Information System (LABDAQ) and EMR as applicable to the tasks performed.
• Excellent attendance and punctuality.
• Must be detail orientated with excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Requires the ability to work within a team environment as well as independently.
• Computer Knowledge required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel and EMR's a plus.
• Familiarity with COLA regulations a plus.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
• Work is performed in an analytical laboratory environment with controlled exposure to potentially hazardous materials and specimens.
• Routine work is performed in a production environment and involves repeated and sustained exertions (actions or postures).
• The nature of the department results in periods of high stress (due to high throughput and rapid turn-around requirements).
• Routine exposure to body fluids, or other potentially infectious materials during the performance of job-specific responsibilities.
• Routine exposure to chemical hazards during the performance of job-specific responsibilities.
