Laboratory Technician

We are seeking a motivated Lab Technician to join our operations department and support our cutting-edge research team! As a Lab Technician at Galy, you will be at the core of our research operations, supporting our scientific research by maintaining lab stocks and spaces, growing plant cell cultures, and operating microscopes. You'll join a highly collaborative, inclusive, and innovative team while contributing to industry-changing scientific developments. Responsibilities:

• Clean and autoclave glassware and other equipment; perform quality control and calibrate equipment if necessary
• Maintain media and solution stocks for laboratory
• Manage laboratory waste disposal
• Manage inventory of lab supplies
• Work in a laminar flow cabinet using aseptic techniques
• Practice safe work habits, including complying with all safety, health, and environmental rules and regulations
• Execute additional tasks as needed: greenhouse sample collection; plant cell culture and growth experiments; and operation of microscopes

Qualifications:

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Plant Biology, Biotechnology, Engineering or related fields with experience in a laboratory environment
• Prior experience with basic laboratory operations to include: lab space and labware clean up; media prep (with the use of an autoclave); stocking and inventory of lab supplies; and waste disposal
• Strong organizational skills, and ability to prioritize multiple requests and/or projects
• Excellent written and oral communication skills with a customer service mindset

Nice-to-haves (but not required):

• Experience with aseptic techniques and cell culture (plant or mammalian cell culture preferred)
• Familiarity with microscopy techniques - basic microscope operation and data acquisition
• Ability to  create and organize data tables for use in downstream data analysis and ability to run data analysis in R or JMP
• Experience with PCR and other molecular biology techniques

Work Environment / Physical Demands:

• Ability to lift at least 30 pounds
• Ability to climb stairs
• Ability to work long hours under a biosafety cabinet.
