DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This position reports to the Regulatory Compliance Wastewater Operations Laboratory is an Environmental Laboratory specializing in Wastewater testing.
- Supervises the Field Service and Sample Courier team.
- Schedule the daily wastewater sampling for all the City’s wastewater treatment plants.
- Manage the autosamplers technician team,
- Respond to discharges from the wet weather facilities.
- Possess knowledge of wastewater processes and discharge permit requirements.
- Determine compliance with various environmental regulatory requirements.
- Develop the skills and competencies of subordinates through training and development activities related to current or future jobs.
- Build a cooperative work team with a safe and productive environment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position may require lifting of moderately heavy items (up to 40 pounds) and/or long periods of walking field work. There are occasional exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture, air pollution, and raw sewage. This position may involve infrequent exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises, and minor burns.s.
This is a Department of Public Works and Engineering Emergency Management Essential Position at the Tier II Level.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in a biology science, Chemistry, an environmental science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a Physical Science from an accredited institution.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Five years of professional experience in a Public Health laboratory or similar facility is required.
A Master's degree in a biology science, Chemistry, an environmental science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a Physical Science from an accredited institution may be substituted for two years of experience; or a Doctoral degree in a biology science, Chemistry, an environmental science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a Physical Science from an accredited institution may be substituted for three years of experience

PREFERENCES
Preference will be given to candidates with experience with courier scheduling, wastewater sampling, automated permanent and portable autosampler technology and autosampler control programming. Candidates must be willing to work outside in uncomfortable weather and conditions, including inside Wastewater Treatment Plants. Position requires availability for scheduling for non-work hour call outs and response to wet weather incidents.
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
