The incumbent of this position supervises, guides and/or instructs the work assignments of subordinate staff. In addition, supervises daily operations, compliance with safety procedures and reviews testing reports for validity and accuracy. Performs technical duties as required.
This is a GRANT FUNDED position and is subject to available grant funds.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Bachelor's degree in a related science area from an accredited college or university AND Four years of experience in a clinical laboratory AND certification as a technologist, MT (ASCP) or equivalent.Georgia Department of Public Health Commissioner and leaders encourage all employees to engage in regular wellness activities and to make lifestyle choices that promote health and well-being.
The use of wellness breaks during the workday is authorized to support this philosophy and assist employees in meeting their wellness goals. A maximum of 30 minutes in a given workday may be used to engage in wellness activities, generally in the form of two 15-minute breaks or one 30-minute break.
Employment Information
All approved teleworking employees must reside within the state of Georgia and depending on the responsibilities of the position, must live within reasonable driving distance of the agency's primary worksite and beable to report to the office when required.
Current State employees are subject to State Personnel Board rules regarding salary.
DPH accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered. DPH will contact educational institutions to verify degree, diploma, licensure, etc.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Accessions specimens, assuring proper temperatures are maintained during transportation, that all specimens are properly identified, and all specimens are in the correct containers for tests ordered.
- Will resolve complicated issues involving customer service and/or research complaints and inquiries from internal and external customers, utilizing laboratory procedures or processes to respond to client's request.
- Communicates with the public, internal customers and/or external customers to provide information and recommendations targeted to meet customer expectations.
- May enter data and/or process documents and records. The work includes operating standard office equipment.
- Works with manager on IT projects that directly and indirectly affect the Support Services Unit and Laboratory as a whole.
- Supervises and plans the work of assigned staff.
- Administers laboratory or section safety program.
- Analyzes laboratory findings to check the accuracy of the results.
- Develops, standardizes, evaluates, and modifies procedures, techniques and processes used in the preanalytical process.
- Establishes and monitors programs to ensure the accuracy of laboratory results.
- Implements and directs a quality assurance program which meets state and federal clinical laboratory licensure requirements.
- Operates, calibrates, and maintains equipment used in the preanalytical processes.
- Oversees compliance with State and Federal laboratory licensure requirements.
- Plans and manages laboratory or section operations.
- Provides on the job training and performance coaching for assigned staff.
