Laboratory Research Specialist

Koch Technology Solutions (KTS), a subsidiary of Koch Engineered Solutions and a premier leader in technology licensing, is seeking a dynamic and entrepreneurial Laboratory Research Specialist to join our team in Chadds Ford, PA. As part of our pioneering efforts in the direct lithium extraction (DLE) sector, you will play a vital role in supporting our Li-PRO business, contributing to the growth of the lithium energy sector.

What You Will Do

• Working in such a way that laboratory safety is the number one virtue. Ensure strict safety procedures and safety checks are followed, raising any safety/compliance concerns immediately.
• Collaborate with senior scientists to develop line diagrams, conduct process safety reviews, and construct bench-scale adsorbent and catalyst test equipment.
• Consolidate data and draft summary reports to support KTS' technology commercialization and licensing endeavors.
• Take ownership of lab work, ensuring quality control for the manufacturing of KTS' proprietary catalysts and sorbents through meticulous analysis and documentation.
• Operate and maintain the automated bench scale catalyst and adsorbent test equipment and glassware experiments in a safe manner to produce quality data.
• Perform hands on laboratory analytical analysis, e.g., sample preparation and operation of ICP-OES, GC, UV-Vis; conduct acid / base titrations; measure catalyst particle size distribution, etc.
• Ongoing personal growth to enhance the ability to contribute to programs, including external training, data analysis, program guidance, experimental input, and technical skills improvement relevant to role as technologies evolve.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

• Experience working safely in a wet chemistry research laboratory.
• Experience with the safe handling of hazardous chemicals and operating high temperature or pressure equipment such as compressed gas cylinders and ovens / furnaces.
• Experience with the use of hand tools (wrench, screwdriver) to construct laboratory test equipment under guidance of the supervisor.
• Experience with the practical application of the scientific method.

What Will Put You Ahead

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry or chemical engineering
• Self-starter that can work under minimal face to face direct supervision and be comfortable building a personal network with broader KTS team remotely.
• The ability to maintain, calibrate and develop methods for analytical instruments such as Gas Chromatography and ICP-OES; Agilent instrument experience a plus.
• Hands-on experience with automated test equipment; Familiarity with or understanding of Opto 22 programming, ladder logic and relay module structure is an advantage.
• Proficient in the use of Swagelok pressure fittings, valves, gauges.
• Can interpret line diagrams and P&IDs and experienced in the hands-on construction of test equipment based on the line diagrams.
• Experience in the Hazard Safety Review process for new experimentation.
