Overview

The Operations Manager is responsible for the day to day operations of the animal facilities assigned. This will include but it is not exclusive of meeting customer expectations by maintaining animal welfare, safety, colony production (breeding), quality, regulatory compliance, managing operations to plan/budget, and shipping. Direct responsibility for management of Barrier/Isolator Supervisors and/or Group leaders to ensure the proper care of Laboratory Animals, their environment, maintenance of records, productivity and growth. The manager is responsible for the Quality Assurance program compliance, and meeting EH&S program compliance. Will coordinate and assist in generating and maintaining commercial animal production, inventories, revisions and reports.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
  • Develop and manage operation budgets and financial plans.
  • Ensure adherence to IACUC, AAALAC, and USDA Guidelines.
  • Manage facility/operation to meet business goals
  • Weekly review of the production facilities including "GEMBA" walks to maintain continuous communication with the operations personnel.
  • Lead and/or Mentor monthly Quality/Safety meetings in the facility.
  • Participate in operational process improvement changes using Lean/Six Sigma techniques and promote a continuous improvement environment.
  • Manage updates regarding colony changes as well as the generation of maximum colony levels report for the barriers and/or Isolator areas.
  • Facilitate a weekly review of Colony Manager, with a concerted focus on compliance to percent accountability and accuracy, including the review of production goals and unused animals.
  • Participate in weekly Production Meetings, with a focus on both meeting and level-setting production goals.
  • Regularly review reports and develop action plan to address any issues or trends.
  • Lead special projects as they pertain to Production, to include but not be limited to, customer special projects and production improvement projects.
  • Manage the Quarterly Breeder Age Analysis, to include a review of Barrier and Isolator reports, as well as an update to the resulting changes in Colony Manager.
  • Oversee Genetic and Routine Health Monitoring. Maintain Health Testing Schedules, and ensure that they are adhered to.
  • Maintain Inbred Pedigree charts for genetic officer.
  • Ensure population and repopulation of Barrier/Isolators, as well as turnover of Barrier/Isolators where appropriate.
  • Approve procedure revisions as required.
  • Ensure training plans, development, and evaluation of individuals reporting to position
  • Coach, mentor, develop, and hold staff accountable for meeting performance goals
  • Other duties as required by management to achieve objectives.

Qualifications
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree (Animal Science education desirable)
  • 5+ years in a leadership role or equivalent
  • Animal Science, Bioscience or pharmaceutical background a plus
  • CMAR (Certified Manager of Animal Resources), ALAT, LAT, LATG, also a plus

*This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience. The salary range will adjust along with the level of the role to match the person's relevant experience and/or education level.
