GENERAL FUNCTION: The Manager of Animal Enrichment and Flow manages internal and external animal behavior, enrichment, and canine training programs at IndyHumane. This position is responsible for increasing Canine save rates within Marion County and central Indiana by optimizing current Canine programs, including playgroups, innovating new programs in conjunction with other organizations designed to maintain and improve animal behavior and quality of life, and working within the mission of IndyHumane. This position will focus on the larger goals of the organization and pursuit of expanding IndyHumane’s programs related to Canine Enrichment, while also supporting colleagues to ensure all daily operations within the Canine Program are effective. SPECIFIC DUTIES:  Collaborate with other IndyHumane leaders and employees to ensure effecƟve communicaƟon and opƟmize the experience of canines that are in our care.  Perform Management DuƟes o Hire and maintain a qualified team to provide enrichment support to the animals. o Scheduling o Approving Ɵme sheets o Training and ensuring the training of staff and volunteers. o Develop, implement, and maintain protocols, SOP’s, training documents, etc. o Provide conƟnuous feedback to employees (what they are doing well and how they can improve)  Lead the OrganizaƟon in providing excellent Enrichment and behavior training for our canines.  Develop and implement canine enrichment programs structured to enhance the quality of life of the canines while in our care.  Facilitate and develop an internal canine enrichment program focusing on playgroups that meet the behavioral needs of sheltered animals and improve adoptability.  AudiƟng total populaƟon against capacity (including felines). Work with stakeholders to Manage Canine PopulaƟon. Update other departments on incoming animals. o Manage the selecƟon of appropriate animals for entry into the IndyHumane program.  Consult with the Volunteer Department to offer volunteer training opportuniƟes that strengthen volunteer knowledge and commitment to IndyHumane and our enrichment programming.  Consult with the IndyHumane MarkeƟng Department to showcase our animals to support adopƟon opportuniƟes.  Work collaboraƟvely with the OperaƟons Dept to offer staff training and the management of Animal Enrichment/behavior to ensure safe pracƟces that align with IndyHumane canine programming.  Assist medical Staff in handling, evaluaƟng, and idenƟfying the medical needs of the animal populaƟon.  Behavior and general adopƟon counseling and Meet & Greets (from shelter and in Foster Care)  Ensures proper support for the Enrichment Team in responding to the Canine Behavior Help Line  Collaborate with the Director of OperaƟons to monitor and maintain sound fiscal budgets for the Animal Enrichment programs.  Direct the acƟviƟes of the volunteer playgroup coordinators and provide adequate and ongoing training in playgroup pracƟces.  Ensure staff members and relevant volunteers understand the prioriƟes and training plans for our “behavior dogs”.  Ensure that training plans are documented and updated in the shelter management system.  Ensure that all Canine Enrichment staff stay up to date on the current research on behavior modificaƟon for canines.  Provide experƟse across the organizaƟon (including volunteers) on proper dog handling and behavior training when appropriate.  Manage the Behavior Dog Scholarship Program to ensure success.  External networking to develop new offsite opportuniƟes.  Provide backup support to departments as needed.  Assist with Volunteer Training or Camp Programs when appropriate. o Responsible for teaching/leading summer camp enrichment or training sessions  Perform other duƟes as needed. QUALIFICATIONS:  Commitment to the mission of IndyHumane and the strong desire to work with the Canine Program and increase its life-saving capacity.  Minimum high school graduate: college or advanced training preferred.  At least two years’ management experience.  Training in Canine Playgroup programming; Dogs Playing for Life training preferred.  Minimum two years’ experience in obedience/ animal behavior training, Advanced cerƟficaƟon preferred.  Must have ability to create a posiƟve and professional work environment. o Must enjoy interacƟng with people, including youth.  High level of organizaƟonal ability, able to delegate tasks quickly and appropriately, able to juggle mulƟple varied tasks, make decisions under pressure and meet deadlines.  Excellent verbal and wriƩen communicaƟon skills o Ability to use social media effecƟvely as a tool to inform and educate IndyHumane Stakeholders.  Ability to effecƟvely manage and collaborate well with a broad populaƟon including fosters, volunteers, members of the public, veterinarians, execuƟves, donors, and staff.  Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills required.  Comfortable and capable of working around Canines of extreme temperaments or difficult medical condiƟons with safe and humane handling.  Must work effecƟvely under stress and adjust to changing condiƟons.  Must be able to walk, stand and liŌ for extended periods of Ɵme.  Must be able to liŌ 50 pounds.  Must not be allergic to chemicals used to clean canine kennels.  Must have a working knowledge of core computer programs including Windows, Google Suite, MS Office applicaƟons, shelter management system.  Must have a valid Indiana Driver’s License.
