Job Description
The Academy of Veterinary Imaging is the leading provider in veterinary ultrasound technique and diagnostic education in the US. The core responsibility of the Academy Technician is it to collaborate with the Academy Coordinator and Medical Director to ensure proper training of all technical staff for the Academy training courses. In addition, this person will execute courses under the direction of the Academy Coordinator. The Lab Technician's role is to ensure the safety and comfort of the animals prior to, during and after the hands on training sessions. They will be responsible for assisting the sedating Veterinarian during the ultrasound scanning of animals.
Responsibilities Include:

• All duties required to prepare, maintain, and ensure a quality training course.
• Work with the veterinarian and assist with getting paperwork or medications ready for training room.
• Monitor the technicians while administering medications and handling of animals.
• Under the direction of the veterinarian, monitor animals' responses to medications so that dosages can be adjusted as needed.
• Responsible to oversee and train the technical staff to prepare the animals and the training area for all training courses.
• Clean and sterilize instruments, equipment, and materials as needed.
• Ensure the technical staff is monitoring proper vitals during hands on training.
• Assist in the proper care and well-being of all animals residing or under the care of the AOVI. This includes canine walking at all necessary times as well as maintaining feline environment at the AOVI.
• Actively assist with animal needs or concerns.
• Check on animals not being used for training session and tend to their needs, i.e., walk, water, clean cage, and bedding. (Pick up after your animal when walking).
• Maintain proper inventory and supplies stocked for training sessions such as needles, syringes, and anything else that may be needed.
• Assist the sedating veterinarian in administering reversal medication and fluids as needed.
• Assist in cleaning training room and getting ready for the next class.
• Transportation of animals as needed.
• Assist in the monthly physical inventory of the equipment on hand for the Academy.
• Begin developing curriculum for veterinary technicians.
• Other duties as assigned

Work experience requirements

• Strong understanding of general animal care
• Solid understanding of general veterinary practices and procedures including
• Strong teamwork capabilities including the ability to effectively work with leadership, peers, and other internal and external individuals to promote our education program and strive for quality in what we do.
• Effective verbal, listening and communication skills.
• Service oriented attitude
• Able to follow instructions.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to maintain a neat professional appearance and demeanor.
• Proven reliability through punctual attendance

Education requirements

• Licensed as veterinary technician, associate's degree in related field is a plus

Physical requirements

• Predominantly standing and/or walking (75%)
• Lifting up to 60 lbs., pushing/pulling up to 30 lbs. and bending or kneeling for cleaning purposes
• Occasional local travel to assist with transportation of animals
• Must not be allergic to animals or have concerns with animals
