Position Summary
Under the direction of the QC Supervisor, in addition to the Job requirements of a Lab Technician I and II, he/she shall have more responsibilities included below:
Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Records test results on standardized forms and creation of test reports using a Laboratory Information Management System, SAP and/or Excel Software.
- Required to be proficient in >50% of the major pieces of Analytical equipment. (GC, Sulfur analyzer, nitrogen analyzer, ICP-OES, HPLC, IC, FTIR, UV-Vis. Spectroscopy, ASTM D1401, copper corrosion, and/or Auto-Titrators).
- Maintain the instruments and make sure it is in working conditions. Troubleshoots instruments if it is not working correctly.
- Train lower-level technicians and interns.
- Understand and know how to use the SQC program set up in LIMS system.
- Learn the chemical process in Reaction group.
- Lean how to make adjustment for out-of-spec. products.
- Exhibits and practices the Third Coast Way fundamental behaviors
Knowledge and Skills:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Physical Sciences is highly recommended
Work Experience:
- 3 to 5 year of related Laboratory experience and/or training. Have experience with Quality Control and Quality Assurance Laboratory related tasks. Experience with LIMS. Experience with advanced analytical test equipment ie: ICP-OES, LECO sulfur and nitrogen analyzers, Gas Chromatography, HPLC, ion chromatography, and other spectrometers.
Skills and Competencies:
- A valid driver’s license.
- Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills.
- Have general knowledge of plant safety rules and be ready prepared to receive standard training.
- Knowledge of our quality policy and objectives. Observe all safety policies and procedures. Participate in plant safety processes and immediately report any unsafe conditions.
- Learn basic product identification.
- Remain current on the requirements of the Quality Program ensure that your actions support the Quality Policy towards continual improvement.
- Professional and courteous behavior.
- Ability to do mathematics related to laboratory methodology calculations, statistics, blend calculations, including a scientific calculator.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as Safety rules, standard operating procedures, and industry methods (English). Ability to write routine reports and speak effectively before groups of employees (English).
Physical Requirements
- The physical demands required are to sit, stand, talk, and hear, smell, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift items.
Work Environment:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee works near moving mechanical parts exposed to fumes, and other chemicals which will require specific PPE and safety precautions.
