This job description for the Lab Assistant at Hospitality Health ER provides criteria for the evaluation of the Lab Assistant position. The Lab Assistant at Hospitality Health ER functions include assisting with daily work flow and operations of the lab. The Lab Assistant will have a strong attention to detail and organization skills.
Position Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Lab Director, the Lab Assistant at Hospitality Health ER will be responsible for, but not limited to:
1. Assisting with daily flow in the lab by checking status of orders and providing clerical services
2. Organizing new lab orders as instructed and copying orders for retention requirements
3. Maintaining lab operations by following policies and procedures
4. Filing results and filing lab send-out protocol
5. Meeting and maintaining the guiding principles of care for Hospitality Health ER
6. Documenting final lab reports by making sure reports are in correct charts and correct ordering physician has final report
7. Preparing patient rooms and keeping the rooms neat and clean
8. Maintaining continuity among work teams by documents and communication actions, irregularities, and continuing needs
9. Contributing to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
10. Communicating appropriately with patients, visitors, and co-workers
11. Any other duties as assigned and approved by the Supervisor, Director or Facility Administrator
12. Maintaining safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; adhering to infection control policies and procedures
13. Maintaining professional appearance and good personal hygiene per company policies
Position Requirements
The requirements for employment with Hospitality Health ER are:
· Proven track record of excellence with time management, organization and attention to detail
· Observable professionalism, productivity and customer service
· Experience in health-related fields and knowledge of medical terminology
· Successful completion of clinical orientation with proven capabilities in skill, knowledge base and vision of Hospitality Health Emergency Room
· Takes initiative and always looking for ways to help flow efficiently
· Maintains skill level by continuing education, collaborative training with co-workers and physicians and annual checkoffs
Additional Position Requirements
· The PRN (as needed) Lab Assistant is required to work a minimum of two (2) 12-hour shifts per month/30-day rolling period. All HUCs are expected to work a rotating schedule to include nights and weekends. A weekend is defined as Saturday and Sunday.
Education/Experience
· High School Graduate/Equivalent preferred but not required
· Ability to read, speak and write the English language
· Must follow oral and written directions
Physical Demands
· Requires full range of body motion

· Standing and walking for extensive period of time
· Pushing and pulling
· Climbing (ascending and descending)
· Bending / Stooping
· Using arm, leg and back muscles for extended periods
