Essential Functions:
Kiln Operation:
- Safely load and unload kilns with ceramic pieces.
- Fire electric and gas kilns according to established protocols.
Glaze Preparation:
- Manage and maintain the production of ceramic glazes, following recipes and safety guidelines.
- Conduct glaze tests to ensure quality and consistency. e Maintain organized records of glaze recipes and test results.
Studio Maintenance:
- Assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization of the ceramics studio.
- Monitor and inventory studio supplies, including chemicals and raw materials.
- Coordinate inventory management and ordering of studio materials.
Gallery Support:
- Assist in the installation and de-installation of artwork for gallery exhibitions.
- Collaborate with curators and artists to ensure proper display and lighting of artworks.
- Support gallery events and receptions as needed.
Required Qualifications: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage inventory and order supplies. Detail-oriented approach to studio maintenance and safety protocols. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience working in a ceramics studio or related environment preferred. Knowledge of kiln operation, including loading/unloading kilns, firing electric and gas kilns. Experience in glaze preparation and glaze testing techniques. Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends for gallery events. Experience hanging art for gallery installations.
