Summary:
The main function of the Kitchen Assistant/ Housekeeper is to coordinate appropriate client dietary menu planning and oversee daily operations of food preparation. They also assist with general housekeeping dutites While the Chef/Kitchen Manager is directly responsible for establishing and maintaining all standards of quality, conduct, customer service, and productivity within the Dining Services Department, the Kitchen Assistants support the Chef/Kitchen Manager in this effort. The Kitchen Assistant promotes a thorough and continuous understanding among all employees of the importance of the Dining Services Department to the quality of life for clients and staff. The Kitchen Assistant engages in preparing food, serving food, and maintaining the cleanliness of food service areas.
Job Responsibilities (This list is non-exclusive):
Prepare dishes and plate presentation according to company policy and set the example for other cooks
Participate in food ordering, receiving and inventorying when asked by the Chef/Kitchen Manager
Adhere to the company's food safety logs procedures
If needed assist in training employees (BHT’s) in best practices prepping, preparing food, as well as proper food temperature
Assist cooking and operating required tools to accomplish service
Clean work area, utensils, dishes, and pots and pans
Run and fill various foodservice machines
Follow diagrams and lists to prepare client trays to specifications
Interact with clientele in a pleasant manner and handle customer complaints
Work with staff to ensure the smooth operation of the kitchen in cold food production, patient tray assembly, and service.
Provide basic housekeeping duties including changing the sheets, changing and arranging the towels, restocking toilet supplies, vacuuming, dusting and rearranging the room after guests check out
Report and return any patient’s properties found in the rooms while rendering service
Report cases of property damage in commercial spaces to supervisor
Work with a team of housekeepers on each shift
Clean, disinfect, and store all equipment at the end of the shift
Maintain a positive relationship with employees and guests
Monitor and report on the inventory of cleaning supplies
Respond to calls for housekeeping problems, such as spills and broken glass
Collect and remove trash and debris
Assist with laundry management, including washing, drying, ironing and sorting linen
Report, turn in and log all lost and found items
Clean upholstered furniture
Perform detailed deep cleans when required
Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
High School Diploma/GED preferred.
2+ years of experience working in a Kitchen preferred
Two years' experience in the addiction treatment field preferred
Working with clients in a 12-step program preferred
Strong customer service skills
Experience working with County Health Department preferred
Experience working with commercial kitchen equipment (including but not limited to: meat slicer, fryer, range, oven, freezers, refrigerators)
CPR/ BLS certification within (60 days of hire)
Valid driver’s license required
Proof of insurance
Physical Requirements:
Mobility - Twist, Bend, Stoop/squat, Move quickly (respond to emergency), Climb stairs, Walk, Stand
Hearing - Hear normal speaking level sounds (person-to-person), Hear alarms (monitors, fire alarms, code alarms)
Visual - See information up to 24 inches away (monitors, computer screens, skin conditions), See objects up to 20 feet away (patient in room), Use depth perception, Use of peripheral vision.
Strength - Squeeze with hands (operate fire extinguisher). Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Other - Reach above shoulders/overhead, Reach below the waist (electrical plugs, etc.), Reach in front (assist patient with arms out), Pick up objects with hands, Write with pen, Use computer (type), Pinch/pick or otherwise work with fingers (use keyboard, etc.), Twist at waist, Twist wrists/hands (turn objects/knobs using hands).
