Kennel Technician

Job Summary:

We are searching for an attentive, doting kennel attendant to oversee the well-being of the animals in our care. The kennel attendant's responsibilities include cleaning cages, administering medication, and providing animals with food and water. You should also communicate diminished functioning to management.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

· None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

· Feeds and waters animals according to feeding instructions and established schedules.

· Cleans and organizes animals’ living areas such as stables, pens, cages, and yards.

· Cleans and disinfects animal equipment such as saddles and bridles.

· Observes animals to identify signs of injury, illness, or disease.

· Provides general treatments for animals; contacts veterinarian for more advanced treatment.

· Grooms animals, which includes washing, brushing, trimming coats, cutting nails, and cleaning ears.

· Maintains records of information such as weight, physical condition, diet, feeding schedule, and medications given.

· Ensures that animals receive necessary exercise.

· Unloads and stores feed and supplies.

· Takes phone calls and schedules appointments.

· Performs other related duties as assigned.

· Transporting animals to and from the kennels.

· Ensuring that the animals have ample, fresh food and water at all times.

· Cleaning animal waste, spilled food, hair, and other debris from the kennels.

· Disposing of trash in a timely manner.

· Adjusting the air temperature to ensure that the animals remain comfortable.

· Evacuating all animals if an emergency occurs.

· Available to work during evenings, and on weekends and public holidays, if required.

Education and Experience:

· High school diploma or equivalent.

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to perform the physical duties of the job.Responsibilities:
- Provide daily care and maintenance for animals in the kennel
- Feed, water, and exercise animals according to their specific needs
- Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, and common areas
- Monitor the health and behavior of animals and report any concerns to the supervisor
- Administer medications or treatments as directed by the veterinarian
- Assist with grooming and bathing of animals
- Interact with customers and provide excellent customer service

Requirements:
- Ability to lift bags of food.
- Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate effectively with pet owners
- Knowledge of animal behavior and basic care requirements
- Ability to handle animals safely and with compassion
- Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
- Previous experience working with animals is preferred but not required

Note: This job may require working on weekends or holidays, as well as occasional overtime.
