The City of Sugar Land is seeking a full-time Kennel Technician in the Public Works Department .

As an Kennel Technician you will:

  • Responsible for the feeding, walking, bathing, and exercising of all sugar land animals in the Shelter's care.
  • Assist the veterinary technician with administration of medications indicated by the Veterinarian.
  • Clean up after animals both inside the facility and outside the shelter. This includes a thorough cleaning of each kennel, cat cage and all wildlife rooms in use.
  • Maintain the shelter by performing tasks including, sweeping, and mopping floors, wiping counters, taking out trash, cleaning bathrooms, and checking equipment and supplies.
  • Be available on weekends and holidays to fill in at the shelter.
  • Pulls food and water at end of shift for animals having surgery the next day
  • Provide exceptional customer service to the public by answering inquires over the phone or in person, directing telephone calls, receiving paperwork and entering information into computer system (includes calls, bite cases, animal impounds, owner reclaims, etc.).
  • Complete and maintain required paperwork for incidents and daily activities.
  • Required to work as an essential employee before, during and after an emergency or disaster, whether natural or acts of war.
  • Stay abreast of, and comply with, all City and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Director or his/her designee.

The ideal candidate must be extremely organized and able to manage the logistics of multiple duties with professionalism and strong communication skills. In addition, they will have a strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment-both critical for success in the role, as are high levels of accuracy, timeliness and dependability. Ideal candidates will also look for innovative, trailblazing solutions to challenges We are looking for someone who can establish and maintain effective working relationships within the organization and work effectively with all levels of employees and management.

Education and Experience:

  • High School or GED Certificate required.
  • At lease one year of progressively responsible experience working with animals.
  • Data entry or administrative experience is preferred.
  • Municipal Experience is preferred.

Training (License and/or Certification):

  • Valid Texas Class "C" Driver License
