Summary/Objective
Under general supervision, performs all functions related to animal shelter operations, animal care and intake and redemption operations including caring for impounded animals and cleaning and maintaining animal care facilities. Performs related work as required.
Hours are M - F 8am-2pm with flexibility available
Duties and Responsibilities
- Cleans and maintains kennels and animal living areas daily.
- Transfers animals between kennels and cages.
- Cleans other shelter areas. Sweeps, takes out garbage, washes windows, etc.
- Cleans and maintains shelter equipment, i.e. carriers, leashes, brushes, etc.
- Cleans, disinfects, and maintains sanitary conditions of all grounds and facilities at the animal shelter.
- Washes food and water bowls and puts them away in an orderly fashion.
- Provides each animal with food and water following approved feeding protocols.
- Follow proper safety measures and procedures when using chemicals and cleaning supplies.
- Assists other animal services personnel as needed.
- Assists in various office and shelter operations as necessary.
- Helps with washing, drying, and folding of laundry.
- Helps maintain a clean and organized shelter.
- Exercise all eligible dogs and provide animal enrichment.
- Inform the Animal Shelter Coordinator of any health issues with the animals.
- Will administer vaccines and medications.
- Bathe dogs as needed for cleanliness and medications.
- Responsible for all other duties as assigned by the Animal Shelter Coordinator.

Education and Experience
- High School diploma or GED.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License.
- At least 18 years of age.
Daily standing for long periods, walking, squatting, twisting, bending, pulling, standing, kneeling, stooping, jumping, running, and reaching. Must be able to lift, move or carry animals or objects weight up to 100 pounds, and use strong chemicals for disinfecting kennels.
Work Environment:
Most work will take place in an indoor environment with exposure to continuous elevated noise levels and strong odors; exposure to bites, scratches, and animal wastes; possible exposure to contagious diseases. Work on uneven, slippery surfaces; work in stressful situations.
