***Judy's Forgotten Jewells is planning to reopen in mid to late April of 2024 so we will be looking to hire with that timeline in mind. Currently, we do have weekend cat care and cleaning duties for a part time position***
The Kennel Technician will be responsible for providing compassionate and attentive care of the animals at Judy’s Forgotten Jewells / Jewell Animal Hospital at all times, maintaining a clean healthy environment for the animals and the public who visit our facility, observing and documenting animal behavior, performing and documenting animal enrichment, participating in animal intake and outcome (including adoption matchmaking), and assisting with other duties as needed. The Kennel Technician is a boots-on-the-ground, direct-care employee.
Core Responsibilities:
- Daily, thorough cleaning and spot cleaning of habitats for all animals, providing feed and clean water for the animals as appropriate for species and health status.
- Participate in adoption meet and greet appointments. Assist with matchmaking between potential adopters and animals in shelter’s care. Review medical and behavioral history with potential adopters. Provide feedback to management on whether potential adoption is an appropriate match.
- Be observant of the health and behavior of the animals in the shelter and hospital on an ongoing basis. Rapidly identify any health or behavior problems or conditions and report them immediately. Perform daily monitoring checks of all animals in care. Assist with animal enrichment and socialization.
- Perform intakes procedures including medical examination and data entry. Humanely administer vaccinations and restrain animals for examinations and treatments.
- Assist in the upkeep of supplies through stocking, laundry, washing dishes, etc.
- Assist with cleaning and upkeep both inside and outside of the facility.
- Assist with janitorial duties including but not limited to, washing windows, sweeping and mopping, sanitizing exam rooms.
Qualifications & Expectations:
- Prior kennel experience preferred but not required, ideal candidates are hoping for a career in animal welfare.
- Knowledge of animal behavior, restraint, and common medical concerns preferred.
- Treat all animals humanely at all times, regardless of the situation or circumstance, and assist public and fellow staff in doing the same.
- Provide a healthy, safe, clean, and pleasant environment and facilities for the animals and the public.
- Maintain a friendly demeanor, and provide quality customer service when assisting the public and interacting with coworkers.
- Affection for animals, concern for their welfare, and a willingness to accommodate animals in the workplace is necessary to succeed in this position.
This role may work weekends and holidays.
