Rogue Retreat envisions a community where all homeless have a place to call home and are empowered to strengthen the quality of their lives. We create opportunities for the homeless to have hope. Rogue Retreat meets homeless people as they are (many with addiction and/or mental health challenges) and provides creative and temporary housing for them: a place to call home. With the help of community partners, we collectively wrap ourselves around program participants delivering supportive services to help them achieve their highest potential. Rogue Retreat provides housing and relationship-based case management that helps participants overcome the barriers that keep them from obtaining housing and becoming self-sufficient. For us, it’s about community connection and restoring lives while creating and sharing stories of hope.
Objective and Purpose
Guests Hosts provide assistance to homeless guests temporarily staying at the Rogue Retreat Kelly Shelter. The Guest Host is an important part of ensuring that the shelter is a safe, sanitary and welcoming environment. Guest Hosts must be available to work any shift and typically start on the graveyard shift, and may move to swing or day shift as those positions become available.
Required Qualifications
· High School Diploma or equivalent.
· Must have a current valid driver’s license and be insurable with our auto insurance provider, as driving our guests in a company vehicle or running errands for the site may be required.
· Based on business necessity and due to the nature of the population we serve, some in active addiction, if you have a substance use disorder you must have 2 years clean since your last use. All employees of Rogue Retreat must be compliant with our drug and alcohol policy. You must be able to successfully able to pass a pre-employment drug test.
· Ability to work under close supervision or independently.
· Exhibit good verbal communication skills.
· Exhibit ability to work well with guests, volunteers, and co-workers.
· Exhibit problem solving skills in acute and/or emergency situations.
Preferred Qualifications
· One year of experience as an employee or volunteer working closely with people experiencing homelessness or other marginalized populations.
· Certification or training in mental health first aid, addiction recovery principals, effective communication, crisis de-escalation, crisis intervention, adverse childhood experiences, trauma informed care principals or other relevant training.
· Bi-lingual in English and Spanish.

Essential Functions
· Become familiar with the Policy & Procedure manual and follow all company guidelines.
· Become familiar with the Guest Agreement to assist guests with knowing and complying with rules.
· Assist guests with daily activities and needs.
· Assist guests with intakes and exits.
· Assist guests with the organization of personal space.
· Redirect unwanted behaviors and deescalates situations as they arise.
· Ensure site safety by performing regular rounds of the facility.
· Understand and implements any necessary emergency procedures.
· May need to ask guests to leave for extreme rule violations.
· Assists volunteers and donors as needed.
· General maintenance of the shelter.
· General cleaning of the shelter which can include bathrooms and other areas as assigned.
Working Conditions/Equipment
The physical environment requires the employee to work inside in a temperature-controlled environment. Congregant shelter environments are, at times, noisy with people entering, exiting, and talking in an office setting that can be noisy with frequent unexpected interruptions to conversations or work routines. The work environment sometimes requires the ability to handle numbers and data with accuracy in an environment that has changing priorities and disruptions throughout the day. May be requested to work overtime and weekends to produce the necessary work or cover for absent employees.
