Job Description
Kayak guide will work closely with Lead Kayak Guide on planning kayaking activities on a daily basis such as: route of the kayaking trip, weather conditions and possible hazards, pick up times, etc.
They will also guide during kayaking operations ensuring the guest’s safety whilst on the water. Kayak Guide will help Lead kayak Guide monitor the state of kayaking gear and equipment and report and request replacement in case of faults.
Kayak Guide assists the Lead Guide in conducting safety and activity briefing for guests participating in kayaking operation, prior to the start of the activity and making sure that fair system is in place to select / rotate guests that are willing to participate in kayaking operation.
- Guiding during kayaking operations ensuring the guest’s safety whilst on the water.
- Creating a safe, fun and nurturing environment for kayaking operations.
- Monitor the state of kayaking gear and equipment, report and request replacement in case of faults.

- Assists the Lead Guide in conducting safety and activity briefing for guests participating in kayaking operation, prior to the start of the activity.
- Assist Lead Guide in making sure that fair system is in place to select / rotate guests that are willing to participate in kayaking operation.
- Works with the Lead Guide to ensure that correct procedures are in place with regards to lowering, lifting, storage and maintenance of kayaking equipment.
- Supervises the correct cleaning / drying of kayaking gear.
- Act as a guide when on the water, sharing knowledge about the highlights of the area.
- When on the water – continuously monitors the group and overall operation, giving safety and corrective guidance.
- Keeps track of time of operation, ensure timely departures and returns of kayaking groups.
- Assist Lead Guide in writing a detailed reports after every kayaking destination.
- Write, as assigned the Daily Expedition Log.
- Socialize and be highly visible to guests while ashore and in public areas onboard.
- On non-kayaking days assists the expedition team with zodiac driving, escorting tours and other duties as directed by Expedition Leader.
- Research & collect destination information relevant to kayaking operations.
- Dining with guests on a regular basis (where possible), on sea days only.
- Assisting with embarkation and disembarkation of guests on turn around days.
Requirements
1. Valid STCW95 certification.
2. Small boat driving license is an advantage.
3. Relevant Kayak Guide certification.
4. Minimum of 1 year experience in leading kayaking operations, including polar regions.
5. Must be a good presenter.
6. Physically and medically fit.
7. Moral integrity is required.
