Description

Vacancy is within the Department of Development Services. Under general supervision, performs increasingly responsible and difficult professional planning work in the modification and implementation of a city master plan, or the administration of a redevelopment program by compiling, analyzing and interpreting socio-economic data. Prepares planning design solutions for the less complex problems. Assists in the preparation and conduct of surveys for the purpose of compiling sociological, economic, and geographical data. Prepares graphic presentations of statistical and geographic data. Performs the less complex analysis of socio-economic and land use data. Prepares preliminary studies and recommendations on redevelopment or land use in locations while under close supervision and continuing review. Assists in special research studies of urban geography, zoning deficiencies, redevelopment plans and master plan implementations. Reviews appropriate federal, state, and local legislation as it affects redevelopment and planning programs. Performs related work as required.
This is a CHPEA union position. The hours of work for this position are 40 per week

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

The examination will consist of rating your training and experience as contained on your application and may include an oral test, written test, or a combination thereof. All parts of the examination, including tests and ratings, will be related to the requirements of the position. The examination will be designed to measure: Knowledge of the principles and practices of modern city planning; the theory of urban geography; and municipal government. Familiarity with the fundamentals of civil engineering and architecture. Ability to: Compile , analyze, and prepare graphic presentations of data; learn to perform increasing complex planning analysis and design work; prepare simple sketches, illustrative maps, and elementary drafting.

Qualifications

Open to all applicants that meet the following minimum qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited college with major course work in Planning, Urban Studies, Public or Business Administration, Architecture, Political Science, Sustainability, Community Development, Law, or a closely related field;
OR
An Associated degree and two (2) years of experience in land use planning.

A COPY OF YOUR DEGREE OR TRANSCRIPT MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH YOUR APPLICATION. A DEGREE OR TRANSCRIPT SUBMITTED WILL BE VERIFIED BY THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT.

HARTFORD RESIDENCY IS PREFERRED. Preferably be a bona-fide resident of the City of Hartford at the time of application. A completed CITY OF HARTFORD RESIDENCY AFFIDAVIT including proof of residency as indicated on the RESIDENCY AFFIDAVIT may be submitted.

Other Information

If selected, you will be required to pass a physical examination administered by a City physician, a drug and alcohol screening, and a background check. If appointed, you will serve three (3) to twelve (12) months of probation. This examination and employment process is subject to all federal, state, and municipal laws, rules and regulations.
