Job Title:Junior Linux Systems Administrator
Location: Novi/MI
Reports to: IT Manager - Infrastructure
NHK, one of the world's leading automotive suppliers of springs and seating is seeking a high performing Linux administrator to join our infrastructure group. The infrastructure group handles the company’s global network, servers (Linux and Windows), security, virtualization, and more.
This role requires extensive familiarity with Linux systems and servers and may involve a high level of risk assessment and user support. You will be responsible to install and set up Linux systems and servers, often for organization-wide deployment. Able to develop servers and work with individual users to ensure that the system works reliably and quickly and answer questions related to setup and installation. Additionally, you will have to set up the architecture of the system, including back-end databases and scripts for specific applications and use cases.
This role involves server-side operations and troubleshooting tasks that support business-critical and development activities. This professional also configures user access and monitors system stability and security through deployment and everyday use.
You will be afforded the opportunity to dive into open source technologies and match them with company business processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, Implement and Maintain the core infrastructure of NHK’s information system.
- Perform routine system maintenance and resolve server-side issues as they arise.
- Install and set up Linux systems and servers, often for organization-wide deployment.
- Write scripts to automate processes.
- Ensure systems meet security requirements and policies.
- Active monitoring of the overall IT system to ensure availability and high performance of delivered IT services.
- Maintain and improvement of backup systems.
- Design, implement, and maintain new systems to meet company needs.
- Provide technical support for complex hardware and software issues that may arise.
- Research the latest technologies and best practices; recommend technology solutions that meet NHK’s business requirements.
- Maintain and improve communications systems (Email, VOIP, IM, etc.)
- Develop and maintain system documentation
Demonstrated Abilities:
- Server administration – Strong background in Linux or UNIX server setup, deployment, and maintenance.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to communicate complex technical information verbally and in writing.
- Ability to set priorities, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Strong administration skills with the ability to solve complex problems.
- Demonstrated ability to respond to emergency situations effectively.
- Passion to learn new technologies with a focus on Open Source Projects.
- High level of technical knowledge.
Required:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Information technology, computer science, or business.
- 2+ years scripting (BASH, Python, PHP).
- 2+ years Networking (Routing, VLANs, security, Firewall, VPN, Wireless).
- 2+ years of Active Directory experience.
- 1+ years Linux administration/engineering using RHEL, CentOS, or Fedora.
- 1+ years virtualization (RHEV, oVirt, VMWare, KVM).
- 1+ years storage technologies (SAMBA, NFS, iSCSI, LVM).
- 1+ years email systems (Zimbra, Exchange, or similar).
- 1+ years backup experience.
- 1+ years VOIP experience.
- 1+ years monitoring experience.
· Must be able to travel up to 25%
- This position requires the individual to be on-site at the Novi, Michigan facility daily.
