Position: Junior Graphic Designer

FLSA Status: Exempt

Location: Durham, NC

Reports to: Creative Director


This job reports to Headquarters in Durham, NC and will require in-person collaboration with the Marketing team. Applicants located outside of Raleigh-Durham, NC will not be considered at this time.


Job Overview:


Counter Culture Coffee is looking for a full-time Junior Graphic Designer to join the Marketing team at our headquarters in Durham, NC. A successful candidate should demonstrate a solid understanding of design principles and typography in a demanding and fast-paced environment and an aptitude for creative problem-solving.


The Junior Graphic Designer works directly with the Creative Director to execute various marketing communication materials for a range of products and branded collateral that communicate the value of the Counter Culture Coffee brand. This enthusiastic individual possesses solid technical skills and a keen graphic sense. The Junior Graphic Designer is expected to effectively communicate Counter Culture Coffee’s current brand, and contribute to its evolution.


Job Duties:

  • Produce on-brand printed and digital materials such as email campaigns, email flows, banners and elements for our DTC website, event posters and fliers, coffee labels and brewtags, and organic and paid social media content.
  • Coordinate the release & processing of files to pre-press and printers. Ensure accuracy of file set-up and specs for all outgoing materials. Approve proofs for accuracy against approved files sent.
  • Coordinate with the Creative Director to affirm marketing objectives and to ensure brand consistency and standards.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 1-2+ years of relevant professional experience
  • Professional-level proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop), Figma, and the Google Suite. familiarity with Mac OS.
  • Strong portfolio representing an understanding of typography, layout, and imagery
  • A keen eye for detail and aptitude for creative problem-solving
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work on a team, be self-directed, and take feedback
  • Knowledge of artisan food or specialty coffee culture
  • A commitment to becoming a more cutting-edge coffee person through available labs, workshops, and self-directed learning
  • BA or BFA degree preferred
  • Availability to help with local event coordination and occasional on-site support
  • Ability to contribute to photo shoots and video production is a plus

The visual acuity requirements (including color, depth perception, and field vision) of this position:

  • Requires close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and extensive reading.

The conditions the worker will be subject to in this position:

  • Subject to environmental conditions - protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes; subject to noise - there is sufficient noise at times to cause the incumbent to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.

  • Become familiar with Counter Culture Coffee brand standards and marketing materials
  • Become effective and efficient with current graphic design templates
  • Become comfortable with existing product design templates
  • Become familiar with all year-round blends and single-origin coffees that Counter Culture sells
  • Understand basic coffee terminology
  • Understand all relevant brewing processes that we support with educational material
  • Become familiar with the company structure, policies, personnel, etc.
  • Complete the Beginner Espresso, Brewing Science I + II
