The Capital Area Division (CAD) of Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) seeks a seeks a Junior Bioprocess Engineer to design and develop the scale-up processes to produce various molecular products. The candidate will optimize existing bioprocesses to improve productivity, yield, and cost-effectiveness, as well as scale-up bioprocesses from laboratory to pilot and commercial production scale. The candidate will possess experience conducting experiments and analyze data to characterize and optimize bioprocess parameters such as media formulation, growth conditions, and downstream processing. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the design and commissioning of bioprocess equipment and facilities. The perfect candidate will possess a Bachelors degree in microbiology, chemical engineering, bioengineering, or biotechnology and have at least 1 year of industry experience. Such industry experience will include experience in bioprocess development and optimization, preferably in a biopharmaceutical or biotechnology industry setting. We also require a strong understanding of bioprocess unit operations including cell growth, cell culture, and product purification.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in microbiology, chemical engineering, bioengineering, biotechnology, or related field
- Minimum of 1 years industry experience
- Strong background in biology, chemistry, mathematics, and engineering principles
- Experience in bioprocess development and optimization
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability and demonstrated experience working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in microbiology, chemical engineering, bioengineering, or biotechnology with 2+ years industry experience
- Masters Degree in microbiology, chemical engineering, bioengineering, or biotechnology
- Experience with bioreactor systems and downstream processing equipment Protein analysis
- experience with process scale-up and technology transfer
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements for bioprocess development and manufacturing (e.g., cGMP, FDA guidelines)
This position is contingent upon award of a contract expected in late summer or early fall 2024.
