Job Summary
This position provides electric service, including installation, repairs and power restoration for the residents and businesses as assigned under general supervision.
Responsibilities

1. Responds to outage service calls, determines nature and cause of failure, decides on and implements course of restorative action for residential and commercial customers.
2. Provides routine maintenance for City's electrical system, including circuit and wiring repair and replacement, trouble shooting and identifying potential hazards and solutions.
3. Locates, in conjunction with outside locating service, all utilities at residential or commercial jobs site prior to work starting on construction or remodel; if unclear, determines which signals belong to which power source.
4. Provides electrical installation for new customers.
5. Terminates electrical service for customers where required or requested.
6. Provides street light repairs where scheduled for routine maintenance as well as reported outages or other problems.
7. Participates in overhead and underground construction projects where line work, pole construction, is required.
8. Maintains equipment, tools and supplies needed for line work, documenting and ordering additions or replacements.
9. Performs reading of meters, as assigned.
10. Provides on-going line clearance including tree cutting and trimming.
11. Promotes quality customer relations, acknowledging any concerns and bringing them to lead line worker or foreman for resolution.
12. Participates in on-call rotation; as a municipal employee, maintains availability for emergency situations.
13. Performs all other related duties as requested or assigned.

Qualifications
Education

• High School Diploma or G.E.D
• Successful completion of an accredited Electrical Line Worker program

Experience

• 4 years experience in similar position
• Holds an active Journeyman Line worker card

Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Must reside within 40 minutes of the Chaska Municipal Services Building (using Google Maps, MapQuest, Waze, Apple Maps as a guide - may be asked to provide proof).
• Valid MN Driver's License (Class A with applicable endorsements)
• High Voltage Electric Certification helpful
• Ability to trouble shoot and diagnose electrical problems; exercise independent judgment
• Flexibility to participate in on-call schedule as well as emergency situations
• Math aptitude

Equipment, Mental & Physical Demands
EQUIPMENT USED

• Heavy equipment including 40/60 ft. bucket trucks, front end loader, digger derrick truck, service and dump trucks, fork lift, excavator, vactor, wood chipper, water pump, wire trailer, etc.
• Hand tools including saw, chainsaw, drill, crimper, etc.
• Meter reading equipment

Mental Effort

• Significant attention to safety standards, procedures, and practices
• Rapid response and accurate problem solving in emergency repair and outage situation

Physical Demands

• Proper and safe operation of trucks, bucket equipment and ladders, and other equipment and tools
• Varying and some prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, grasping, observing, identifying colors, climbing, balancing, and lifting, carrying and moving objects 80+ lbs.
• Comfort working at heights of 100+ feet and in trenches of 5+ feet in depth

• Driving to and from work sites
• Working outside in all seasons with varying levels of exposure to wind, rain, snow, ice, sun
• Working within confines of both underground and overhead electrical system structures and construction sites, including energized conductors
