The job of "Journey-Level - Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technician" is done for the purpose of maintaining HVAC systems and components in safe operating condition; providing information on proper operation of HVAC systems; identifying location of existing HVAC systems; determining the efficient installation of systems; ensuring assignments are completed in a safe, proper and timely manner and directing assigned workers as necessary.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Upholds board policies and follow administrative procedures
Analyzes drawings for the purpose of identifying location of existing HVAC systems and determining the efficient installation of additional systems
Installs HVAC components (including motors, valves, wiring, electronic controls, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining them in safe operating condition
Provides list of supplies, equipment and tools needed for the purpose of ensuring adequate materials are available to complete assignments in a timely manner
Orients staff for the purpose of providing information on proper operation of HVAC systems
Repairs and maintains HVAC systems for the purpose of ensuring proper/safe operation of equipment
Responds to emergency situations (e.g. facility damage, HVAC systems, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns
Schedules assigned personnel for the purpose of meeting shift requirements and prioritizing work orders
Transports various items (e.g. equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of providing materials at job site as required to complete tasks
Coordinates maintenance and repairs of equipment with appropriate personnel
Performs necessary preventative maintenance on equipment
Maintains online database of HVAC equipment
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
Assists other trades as needed for the purpose of meeting demands and completing work orders in a timely manner.
Coordinates with district and other trades' staff for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently.
Directs personnel as assigned for the purpose of maximizing the efficiency of the workforce and meeting shift requirements.
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies.
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience Required: Prior journeyman-level HVAC Technician experience. Minimum 5 years of experience preferred.
Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: Skills to: operate hand and power tools used in craft; develop, read and interpret plans/blueprints; perform basic math to make calculations; key and install door hardware including locksets, closers, panic devices and passage sets.
Knowledge of: methods and use of materials, tools and equipment used in craft; appropriate building codes; safety (MSDS) requirements; and keying and door hardware installation.
Abilities to stand for prolonged periods, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, establish priorities, work independently and with minimal supervision.
Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, reaching/handling/finger dexterity, talking/hearing conversations, near visual acuity/depth perception.
Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Valid Driver's License and evidence of insurability, Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance, and valid CPR/First Aid cards. Journey-level electrician license, EL06A required, with the HVAC and Refrigeration System specialty preferred. The Washington EPA Section 608 Certification required.
Training Required: The EL06A electrical license requires a combination of work hours, classroom instruction, and passing an examination. The Washington EPA Section 608 Certification requires passing an exam.
Other Requirements: Must have and maintain a phone and be willing to respond to off-hour emergency calls; must have own vehicle; must have all carpenter hand tools; must have excellent moral character and be able to get along with staff, students and adults; must present a positive public image, maintain a neat, clean personal appearance, wear clothing appropriate to tasks being performed, and have regular and consistent work attendance
EDUCATION:
High school diploma and/or equivalent; prior job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility. Completion of HVAC apprenticeship program preferred.
