JOB SUMMARY
A trainee participates in a structured on-the-job training program designed to provide the opportunity to gain knowledge, experience and competency in the diagnostic sleep testing procedures required to obtain certification as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist. Work includes performing basic sleep testing procedures and associated interventions under the direct supervision of a credentialed polysomnographic technologist and in accordance with professional standards and applicable regulatory requirements. As training progresses and additional polysomnography skills are acquired, more advanced job duties consistent with newly demonstrated competencies will be assigned.
This a temporary classification of limited duration and requires completion of the STAR (Sleep Technology Approved Resource) Program within 6 months of date of hire and CPSGT within 12 months of date of hire.
Essential Job Functions
- Under supervision and within scope of position, performs sleep study preparation and set-up; observes, performs and records daytime/overnight sleep and EEG studies under the direction of a registered health care provider (Polysomnography or EEG Tech).
- Under supervision and within scope of position, prepares record for analysis and interpretation by a physician; performs sleep study procedures, scores sleep study results and generates reports; follows department protocols to assure that results produced are accurate, concise and consistent.
- Completes all required documentation in accordance with department protocols.
- Cultural Sensitivity and Competence: Demonstrates proper use of communication tools/materials for effective communication and understands how the culture(s) of patient populations can affect communication, collaboration and the provision of care, treatment and services. Patient Population Served: Demonstrates knowledge and proper skills associated with the department’s defined specific populations served.
Education/Work Experience Requirements
Current enrollment in an accredited educational program leading to a certificate or associate degree with an emphasis in polysomnography OR
Six months’ work experience in a heath care setting. Work experience involving direct patient care is preferred.
Licensure/Certification- Current healthcare provider BLS Certification.
- Successful completion of the STAR (Sleep Technology Approved Resource) program within six months of date of hire.
- Obtain Polysomnographic Technician Certification (CPSGT) within twelve months of date of hire.
