Job Description
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Responsible for the design, implementation, operations and maintenance of the following systems including: Windows Servers, SQL, Exchange, VMWare, Veeam, replication network, data backups and recovery, data management, data cabling, patch management, mobile workforce, system monitoring, network/print servers and all related application servers. Responding to and preventing cyber security related events. Provides monitoring, testing, troubleshooting, security, standardization, design, data optimization, replication, and disaster recovery. Recommends and schedules repairs. Supports escalated issues from IT Support Specialists and other IT experts. Monitors system health and assists with division projects and workload as needed. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Manager of IT System Operations.
TYPICAL TASKS
Typical tasks include installation and maintenance of core systems for Windows Enterprise Server, Microsoft SQL, Exchange, VMWare, Veeam, Exagrid and other backups and recovery software and Patch Management systems. Responds to system and Cyber Security events. Applies routine system patches and upgrades. Performs daily job monitoring and system tuning. Maintains our disaster recovery process and keeps detailed logs on all system changes for trend analysis. Assists other divisions with application troubleshooting with our Customer Information and Financial Systems. Provides alerts for critical systems and appropriate technical instructions on how to respond accordingly.
Additional duties include evaluating and making recommendations on new products. Assists with the budget process for server infrastructure and software licensing, maintains core system licensing inventory, and provides second level support for IT System Specialists and help desk technicians. May work outside of normal business hours to perform critical patches or other related system maintenance work.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Requires technical knowledge of Microsoft SQL, Windows Server, Exchange, VMWare Virtualization, Veeam, Exagrid and other backup/replication technologies and patch management administration. Practical experience in managing multiple environments, both on premise and cloud-based, to include monitoring and tuning to provide a high availability environment. Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose various system related issues, keep systems up-to-date with system upgrades or patches with minimal impact to the production environment, maintain system licensing, recommend system upgrades and provide training and support to other IT staff.
This individual must be a quick learner with good documentation and communication skills who can thrive in a fast-paced environment. Individual must possess great customer service and communication skills and work well under pressure. Individual must be self-sufficient in working on projects and demonstrate the ability to solve complex problems and designs. Must have strong analytical and problem solving skills. Must be able to work independently and be part of a motivated team. The ability to learn and enhance their knowledge on a self-taught basis. The ability to plan, implement and maintain database projects and system maintenance. A demonstrated ability to interface effectively with end-users and technical staff is essential. Effectively prioritize and escalate issues appropriately with understanding and carrying out oral/written instructions. A demonstrated ability to handle complex tasks with minimal supervision. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Ability to lift or displace up to 50 lbs.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology, Network Engineering, Cyber Security or related technical field and three (3) years of working experience in a SQL DBA, Windows Server, Server Virtualization and Exchange email environments or a commensurate combination of education and experience. CompTia Security+ or an Ethical Hacker Certification (CEH) from EC - Council is required. VMWare Certified Professional or Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate certificate preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Obtain a Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate certification after one (1) year in this position. Obtain a VMWare Certified Professional certification within two (2) years in this position. Must maintain certifications through Continuing education credits or recertifying prior to expiration of their credentials.
