GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
Information Security Specialist will oversee the IT security posture of Urban Strategies IT systems and will ensure that Urban Strategies systems are secured using current best practices. The Information Security Specialist will monitor and evaluate Urban Strategies IT systems and make recommendations as necessary. This includes checking server, application and network logs, ensuring that computer systems are updated and patched, and verifying health of backups.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Monitor and evaluate security settings in place of network, server, application and cloud systems.
- Make recommendations on necessary security changes to ensure that the computer systems are secure.
- Monitor backup status and ensure that backups are secure, healthy and recoverable.
- Create plans for business continuity in case certain systems fail.
- Review compliance settings/policies and audit logs from Azure and M365.
- Will lead penetration testing whether done internally or with a 3rd party vendor.
- Software and system updates: Assist in implementing software updates, patches, and security enhancements to ensure a secure and up-to-date IT environment.
- Manage user accounts and permissions with systems like Active Directory, Azure AD, O365, Teams, SharePoint and various company-used applications.
- Help monitor IT systems and report issues and anomalies to immediate supervisor.
- Report security incidents to immediate supervisor.
- Assist other IT specialists in day-to-day work if necessary.
- Collaboration and process improvement: Work closely with the IT team to identify recurring issues, improve processes, and contribute to the development of IT policies and procedures.
- Documentation and knowledge sharing: Develop user guides, knowledge base articles, and training materials to promote self-service and enhance user experience.
- Technical skills: Proficient Windows systems and Microsoft 365 environment.
- Problem-solving abilities: Ability to analyze and resolve technical issues independently, ensuring minimal disruption to user productivity.
- Excellent communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical users.
- Customer service orientation: A proactive and customer-focused approach to IT support, with the ability to empathize and provide timely solutions.
- Time management: Strong organizational skills to prioritize tasks, manage multiple assignments, and meet deadlines effectively.
- Able to react to change productively, fast-paced environment, and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
- Work evenings, and on call as needed to assist with programmatic services.
- Attend external and internal program training and meetings when required.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE and/or REQUIREMENTS TO BE CONSIDERED
- Education: An associate degree in information technology field or 5 years work experience is required. A strong background in computer networks is and computer systems is required.
- Must be bilingual in Spanish and English
- Experience: 2 years of IT security work experience.
- An active IT security certification is required.
- Strong knowledge of Azure and Microsoft 365 security settings
- Strong knowledge of Linux systems is preferred but not required.
- Strong knowledge of Windows servers and cloud computing (Azure/AWS) is required.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to successfully interact with staff, and other stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- A valid driver's license, available to travel for meetings or training.

WORK CONDITIONS
- Ability to see at normal distance, hear normal conversations and sounds and use hands and fingers to fill out required forms. Will drive regularly, work in the office and remotely but will travel about 50% of time for home visits. May work evenings/weekends to meet required timeframes.
