The IT Engineer (L1+) is a level above the MSP Technician I. Includes the duties of:
· MSP Technician I
· Remote Technical Support Analyst
· Supervise and Assist MSP Technician I
· Sales Engineering support and assistance
As a Computer Technician your duties include: Design, plan, install and configure computer workstations and local area, and cloud services (i.e., AWS and Azure). Test and operate them, monitor their performances, troubleshoot and diagnose any problems that might arise.
Responsibilities
1. Install, operate and maintain services, routers, concentrators, hubs, switches, modems and other network devices following technical plans.
2. Resolve network communication problems.
3. Install or repair Windows computers with standardized applications and networking software, diagnosing and solving problems that develop in their operations.
4. Respond to user questions and explain the operation of network applications and equipment.
5. Assist in the maintenance of standards and documentation.
6. Implement and coordinate network policies, procedures and standards.
7. Ensure anti-virus software is installed, properly configured and regularly updated.
8. Ensure backup software is installed, properly configured and regularly updated.
9. Maintain and monitor servers and network hardware for assigned clients.
10. Install and configure local area data communications networks which may carry data, voice and video communications following organization standards.
11. Train the sales department on product knowledge for data and IP voice products.
12. Provide sales engineering support to the sales team when required.
13. Work with team on sales and provide technical expertise for projects.
14. Test, evaluate and run trials on products.
15. Work with marketing to design the collateral and documentation to sell and support products.
16. May conduct seminars and training promoting products and ease of use.
17. Able to address alerts according to MSP package levels.
Skills
• Competency with managing client and server devices in a Microsoft Windows domain, utilizing at minimum tools like MS Active Directory, MS Group Policy, MS files services and MS Print Services.
• Ability to efficiently manage the development of a significant number of desktop/laptops using industry standard tools like Symantec Ghost, MS System Center Operation Manager, WSUS, or similar, to minimize trouble calls, security risks, and in-person visits to workstations.
• Strong interpersonal skills in order to work with both technical and nontechnical personnel at various levels in the organization.
• Intermediate to High level Windows system administration skills.
• Demonstrate ability to effectively document procedures and IT systems.
• Ability to identify end-user training needs and fulfill those needs via internal and/or external resources.
• Ability to lift and haul equipment up to 50 lbs. and crawl under workstation to install and maintain equipment. Physical requirement/working conditions:
• This position may require 8-10-hour days, flexible hours and some weekends when the need arises. Employee should be aware that some surroundings or physical conditions under which a job must be done and the extent to which those conditions make the job disagreeable might include the presence and relative amount of exposure to dust, dirt, heat, fumes, contaminants, cold, noise, vibration, wetness, etc.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in the IT field is preferred
• Significant training in network installation, operations and troubleshooting.
• A+, Network +, MCSA or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience installing and supporting local area networks and workstations.
• Experience with MS Terminal Services or similar remote desktop platform.
• Experience with VMWare, MS Hyper-V or similar hypervisor platform.
• Advanced level Windows system administration skill.
• Skill with VPN client deployment and troubleshooting.
• Windows Server 2016 or above experience.
• Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field.
• Fluent both in oral and written communications.
