The North Carolina Department of Revenue has established this position as remote.

This Business Systems Analyst position will work with business and technical stakeholders to perform process analysis and engineering to assist with the creation of, and edits to, architectural designs. This analyst is expected to develop an understanding of the business functions and the technology components of the department. This analyst will work with the Innovation and Implementation division within IT, to develop technical specifications based on the gathered requirements. Documents developed by this Business Systems Analyst, must be detailed and accurate, and should follow standardized templates.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Ability to work with customers as a member of cross-divisional work groups and maintain positive and productive relationships with customers, peers, and superiors.
  • Ability to prepare and present oral and written reports clearly and concisely. Ability to communicate technical terms and concepts to non-technical staff along with the ability to understand customer needs and translate them into appropriate automated solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience documenting functional requirements and technical specifications for existing and new applications.
  • Experience working with customers to advise on strategies, alternatives and the implications of specific application customization and interface designs.
  • Exhibit comprehensive knowledge of the work area demonstrated by an in-depth understanding and use of advanced principles, theories and practices associated with the work specialty.
  • Possess a high-level understanding in the areas of application programming, database and system design.
  • Experience conducting analysis of technical solutions to determine pros and cons of modifications.
  • Intermediate knowledge of general IT architectural principles, technical designs, and specifications
  • Adept at learning to use new software applications, for work processes.
  • Experience creating and updating Visio documents.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor degree in business administration, computer science or any related field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in business consultation, process improvement, or requirement gathering in an information technology environment, or Associate degree in business administration, computer science or any related field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of related experience in an information technology environment; or High School or GED and five years of related experience in an information technology environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
