Description
Position at PCMag

About Us:

For more than 40 years, PCMag has been a leading authority on technology, delivering lab-based, independent reviews of the latest products and services. Our expert analysis and practical solutions help our audience make better buying decisions and get more from technology. Our team is dedicated to excellence, independence, and trust, which ensure that we always deliver high-quality journalism. We develop our stories through testing, research, and interviews, along with product and industry experience.

PCMag is looking for an Inventory Control Coordinator to join our dynamic, passionate team.
Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly organized, thorough Inventory Control Coordinator to supervise the prompt logging, outbound shipping, and offsite routing of all the products that our team reviews, including laptops, desktop PCs, TVs, phones, displays, PC components, and much more. This is a unique job opportunity for a self-starter interested in seeing how a major tech-review organization works (and potentially, break into the field). We're obsessed with technology; you should be too.

The ideal candidate will have keen attention to detail, possess strong problem-solving skills, and have a willingness to pitch in, on an as-needed basis, on product testing in PCMag's onsite lab. This role is crucial in keeping the review operations of PCMag.com running smoothly; after all, we review more than 1,500 products a year! The Inventory Control Coordinator will also be instrumental in helping us choose and implement a new inventory tracking system to be deployed in 2024 for PCMag.

This is a five-days-a-week onsite role in our New York City offices.

Responsibilities:

  • Be the on-site NYC point of contact for inbound deliveries, day in and day out. Coordinate with office management and building personnel to manage everyday and unusual deliveries (for example, inbound/outbound freight).
  • Log in and maintain accurate records of all technology products received in our NYC lab, and by offsite reviewers. Assign identifiers to each product and log all shipment activity.
  • Maintain PCMag's tracking system for all technology products, from receipt to return/disposal.
  • Help PCMag choose and implement a new inventory management system in 2024.
  • Coordinate returns and tracking/pickups for reviewed products.
  • Develop and manage relationships with tech vendors and shipping companies to expedite shipping issues.
  • Conduct regular audits of physical inventory. Implement and enforce security measures to prevent theft or unauthorized access to PCMag inventory. Investigate discrepancies or losses and report/take corrective action.
  • Provide inventory and shipping assistance to sibling sites Mashable and Lifehacker, and Ziff Davis IT department, on an as-needed basis.
  • Support PCMag reviewers situated around the US in terms of shipping, logistics, and product access.
  • Provide assistance to the staff photographer in staging and setting up for studio shoots in the NYC office.
  • Learn the rudiments of technology benchmark testing, with the aim of being able to provide ad-hoc testing assistance in PCMag Labs.

Qualifications

  • This position is based in our testing lab in New York City. You must be willing to work onsite.
  • Experience in inventory management or with inventory management systems is a plus.
  • Comfort with using technology products, including laptops and TVs, is a must.
  • Ability to move and manipulate packages up to 100 pounds, including large desktop computers and televisions.
  • Solid problem-solving skills and a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently, while keeping multiple collaborators  informed and balancing competing priorities.
  • Comfort with key office software such as Gmail, Slack/messaging apps, Microsoft Office suite (Word/Excel), database software, and shipping programs.

All applications require a cover letter explaining why you're the perfect fit for this role.
