The Pittsfield Public School District is seeking an Interpreter and Translator Provider.
This is a non-bargaining position that runs through June 30, 2024. The position is up to 18 hours per week, including some evening hours.
The Interpreter and Translator Provider plays a crucial role in facilitating effective communication between individuals with diverse linguistic backgrounds. Responsibilities will include accurately interpreting spoken language, translating written materials, and ensuring cultural nuances are appropriately conveyed. The role demands a high level of proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in multiple languages with the ability to convey ideas, thoughts, and information with accuracy, fluency, and cultural sensitivity within various cultural contexts.
Essential duties of the position:
-Provide real-time interpretation during registration, meetings, conferences, interviews, district messaging, and other events to bridge language gaps.
-Interpret spoken communication accurately, considering tone, context, and cultural nuances.
-Translate written documents, including reports, teacher/parent/caregiver communication, manuals, registration documents, district forms, and other materials, maintaining accuracy and cultural sensitivity.
-Ensure that the meaning and intent of the source content are faithfully preserved in the target language.
-Maintain an electronic database of all translations
-Demonstrate a thorough understanding of cultural differences to facilitate effective communication in diverse settings.
-Stay updated on cultural trends and linguistic developments to enhance translation and interpretation quality.
-Implement rigorous quality control measures to guarantee the accuracy and consistency of language services.
-Stay informed about industry standards and best practices to continuously improve service quality.
-Adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines, particularly when handling sensitive information during interpretation or translation assignments.
-Knowledge of educational terminology is essential, especially when dealing with registration and other school-related processes. This helps ensure accurate and precise communication.
Job Requirements
High School, GED or equivalency
-Strong cultural awareness and sensitivity.
-High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
-Fluency in English, Spanish, and/or French with the ability to interpret the spoken and translate the written languages.
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
-Demonstrated discretion and confidentiality.
-Must be able to work well as part of a team.
-Must be self-motivated, flexible, very well organized.
-Proficiency in Google Suites, MS Word and Excel with general email and database experience.
-Familiarity with industry-standard tools, technologies and best practices used in interpretation and translation.
-Flexible schedule to include evening events, such as, parent open houses and conferences.
-Will need reliable transportation in order to travel to various district and city sites.
