Heart to Heart International is currently seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Intern in Emergency Management and Business Continuity. The position requires a dynamic and organized individual who is passionate about EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT and business continuity. This individual will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in a non-profit humanitarian organization, while helping to create a safe and secure environment for our staff and visitors. Our goal for this internship is to develop an emergency operations plan for our headquarters located in Lenexa, KS. Using best practices from today’s educational process, the intern will help ensure that our non-profit humanitarian organization can continue our critical mission locally and worldwide.
Internship Details
- This is a paid internship (temporary non-exempt position)
- Exact schedule including internship dates and hours per week to be determined upon hiring
- Between 20-30 hours per week
- 1-2 days per week in person at our headquarters in Lenexa for 4 hours minimum each day; remaining hours can be done virtually
- Approximate dates for summer internship: early June to early August
Responsibilities
- Assess our organizational risk and perform a hazard analysis.
- Develop an organizational emergency plan for HHI.
- Identify next steps and an implementation plan.
- Complete a plan for the tasks required to obtain business ready status.
- Additional tasks/projects as needed
- Check in weekly to the intern's supervisor and monthly to the Volunteer Department.
- Create a final presentation/document to be delivered at the end of the internship.
Qualifications
- Must possess a strong knowledge of EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT and business continuity.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated record of being a self-starter with mature decision-making capacity, resourcefulness, and innovation.
- Proven track record in participating and thriving on diverse collaborative teams, working together to reach shared goals.
Requirements
- Must successfully complete a background check and drug screen.
- At least 18 years old
- Enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Emergency Management, Business Continuity, or a related field OR completed a bachelor’s degree in one of those fields no more than 6 months prior to submitting application.
- At this time, only United States citizens are eligible for paid internships.

- Although Heart to Heart International anticipates the internship will last for the full agreed upon time period, no selected intern is guaranteed to have his or her internship last for any period of time. HHI reserves the right to end the internship of an individual at any time for any reason. Agreement by an individual to participate in the internship does not constitute a contract or guarantee of employment.
