Description Summary
The International Student Services Coordinator will be responsible for recruiting, retaining, and enrolling prospective and current International Students. They must stay informed on the International Student application process and rules around F-1 student visa holders. The International Student Services Coordinator will be responsible for advising students in the development of educational and transfer plans; assisting in registering students each term; reviewing degree audits and graduation plans. The individual must possess the ability and desire to work as a team member. The International Student Services Coordinator must exercise independent judgement as well as work cooperatively with college personnel and the public. They will provide leadership in the Student Services of International Students and will develop programs and activities to promote student success.
Examples of Duties
Constant (67-100%)
  • Serves as the Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) for current International Students working in conjunction with other College Designated School Officials (DSO), U.S. Government, ICE/Department of Homeland Security.
  • Processes required documents related to F-1 visa rules and regulations for incoming and current International Students.
  • Ensures Homeland Security/US Citizenship and Immigration Services compliance with International Student records through the Student and Exchange Visitors Information System (SEVIS) and mandated student immigration files.
  • Acts as the primary point of contact for prospective international applicants and their families in the admissions and recruiting process.
  • Assists with in person and virtual campus visits for International Students.
  • Verifies applicant progress and compliance with admission requirements.
  • Maintains strong relationships with placement organizations, and coaching staff to facilitate recruitment and enrollment of students.
  • Aids student decision-making by providing options that are in the best interest of the student's development, retention and completion, which are in accordance with SEVIS requirements, College policies, procedures, and mission.
  • Advocates for all International Students, in connecting them to resources on campus and within the community.
  • Assists with payroll packets, social security letters, referrals for taxes, transcript requests, and SEVIS transfer requests.
  • Remains current on all issues related to SEVIS, International Student processing and related activities to ensure college procedure is in accordance with governmental regulations.
  • Provide input and insights into the development of special recruiting communication tools.
  • Serve as an academic advisor in all phases of advising and goal achievement, and in the skills needed to develop an academic plan, leading to completion and graduation.
  • Provide detailed information to students concerning program requirements, transfer requirements, curriculum choice, course selection, and enrollment.
  • Cross-train in all majors and programs.
  • Keep accurate records for all communication with all student in Colleague.
  • Assist in all retention activities. Contact all student's on Advisee Summary list and document appropriate advising notes.
Frequent (34-66%)
  • Prepare reports to the various State of Iowa Departments.
  • Coordinate with the Athletics Compliance office on International Student athlete records.
  • Create, coordinate and conduct International Student events/gatherings/workshops.
  • Manage current students who have not enrolled for the following semester.
  • Review transfer institution requirements and keep transfer plans and tip sheets up to date.
  • Replacement of students in courses if they were not successful. Documentation of all students is required.
Occasional (10-33%)
  • Assist students with filing for OPT and CPT.
  • Facilitate international new student orientations.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions, work in cooperation with other college departments, and serve on appropriate committees.
  • Assist with the coordination of first-year orientation, Triton Visit Days, and any other recruitment activities as needed.
  • Assist with the planning of the college's Focus International event.
  • Participate, as requested, in special enrollment, recruiting, and advising related projects.
  • Assist the departments with walk-in students and campus visits during high traffic times.
  • Update the international webpage as needed.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

4. Establish and maintain good working relationships with management of overseas placement organizations, government agencies, Iowa Central faculty and staff, and the public.
5. Working knowledge of personal computers, general office equipment, and educational media equipment.
4. Be flexible and focused in a fluid work environment.
6. Possess strong human relations skills and the ability to get along with diverse populations.
7. Assume responsibility, deal effectively with problems, and exercise independent judgment when making decisions.
Qualifications
Associate's Degree required, Bachelor's Degree preferred. Previous work experience related to the job responsibilities highly recommended. Must possess good communication skills, be detail oriented, and work as a team member. Experience in International Student recruitment, admissions, and advising or experience as Designated School Official with knowledge of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations highly encouraged.
