Position Summary

ABOUT THE COLLEGE:

Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical, 15% Adult Basic Education, 3% Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. Green River's service areas are increasingly ethnically diverse, comprising African Americans, African immigrants, Asian Americans, Asians, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Middle Eastern Americans, among other communities.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The International Education Program Manager works with the members of the International Education team to manage, implement, and coordinate self-support programs that serve international and domestic students. The position reports to the Director of International Education. Primary responsibilities are to plan and implement all aspects of selected Green River College (GRC) and Washington Community College Consortium for Study Abroad (WCCCSA) study abroad programs. This includes all aspects of marketing and recruiting students. Working closely with the International Education Director, Assistant Director and Intensive English Program Manager, the International Education Program Manager assists with hosting short-term international programs on the GRC campus, supports campus-wide collaborative online international virtual exchange programs, and other new global study program initiatives.

Position Responsibilities

Manage assigned study abroad programs

  • Develop and plan programs annually through ongoing communication with overseas partners
  • Coordinate and/or complete the preparation of study abroad documents related to travel, purchasing, payroll, budget, event coordination, brochures, and publications in a timely manner.
  • Promote programs on and off campus.
  • Implement all aspects of programs within assigned budgets and through close coordination with faculty and relevant entities.
  • Evaluate and improve programs.
  • Take the lead on marketing all International Education-sponsored study abroad programs through social media, websites, class visits (at GRC and WCCCSA member campuses), virtual and in-person information sessions, and tabling.
  • Represent GRC Study Abroad at (WCCCSA) meetings and actively participate in consortium committees and leadership roles.

In collaboration with the Assistant Director of International Education, support Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) faculty training, faculty matching efforts and grant implementation.
  • Attend team coordination meetings.
  • Help maintain a database of international partner universities.
  • Facilitate faculty matching process.

Coordinate and implement short-term customized and/or grant programs and follow-on activities (such as JFOU Japanese Aviation English program, Learnmark Danish globalization program, and the Study of the United States Institute on Women's Leadership)
  • Coordinate and/or complete the preparation of program documents related to travel, purchasing, payroll, budget, and event coordination.
  • Arrange and coordinate assigned program activities and events.
  • Escort groups on field trips and activities.
  • Conduct program evaluations.

In collaboration with the International Education team, assist with implementing new initiatives
  • Perform complex word processing tasks such as merging and sorting, integrating text with graphics, database files, using computer software such as Microsoft, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Execute other related duties as assigned.
  • Available to work some evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • AA Degree or higher
  • Two years' experience working in the study abroad field
  • Experience marketing International Education Programs and student recruitment
  • Demonstrate intercultural competency with experience, expertise, and commitment to equity in working with students, communities, and colleagues from diverse backgrounds, identities, and intersections.
  • Innovative/entrepreneurial mindset
  • Social media marketing experience
  • Knowledge of government organization and administrative procedures
  • Ability to be self-directed as well as a collaborative team player
  • Flexible, self-motivated, and ability to take initiative
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management and coordination skills
  • Ability to multi-task numerous projects with demonstrated time management
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex issues to internal and external constituencies and knowledge about when to best do it orally or in writing
  • Previous experience or demonstrated competency in areas of problem solving
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • A friendly, positive attitude
  • Demonstrated cultural and political savvy
  • Understanding of international and cultural protocol
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvements in service and efficiency
  • Ability to effectively utilize computer databases and applications

  • Ability to occasionally travel domestically.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • Study abroad program development and design experience
  • Studied or lived abroad
  • Can speak a second language
  • Experience collaborating with academic divisions on curricular matters pertaining to study abroad programs
  • Experience working with students and instruction/registrars' offices on course articulation agreements
  • Demonstrated experience implementing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives
  • Working knowledge of academic virtual exchange principles
  • Experience working in a higher educational environment
  • Experience living or studying abroad
  • The ability to contribute to the college's commitment to diversity by fostering a climate of multicultural understanding and appreciation
  • Demonstrated experience working with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds as well as those with disabilities

Special Requirements, Licenses, and Certifications:
  • Must be able to obtain a Washington State driver's license and be able to operate a college vehicle.
  • Able to pass and maintain a background check
Working Conditions:
  • Must have the ability to sit for prolonged period at a desk/computer workstation
  • Frequent repetitive arm, hand, and finger motions
  • Frequent use of computer and exposure to terminal screen in performing work assignments
  • Work in an office setting with frequent interruptions
  • Must be able to maintain "regular and predictable attendance"
  • May need to carry, lift, or move equipment/supplies up to 10 lbs.
  • Work schedule: Standard work hours are between 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with flexible scheduling to meet student needs which may include early morning, evening, and weekend hours
  • Be available for occasional domestic travel
  • Work in stressful environment with competing demands on time
Term of Position: 12 months
