International Key Air Freight Operations Specialist
  • Job Type: Full-Time (On-site)
  • Location: Renton, WA or Addison, IL
  • Salary Range: $55,000-$75,000 Annual Salary range
  1. OBJECTIVE

This position is responsible for delivering excellent customer service, quality operational execution, supporting customer profitability, and overseeing movement of goods door to door for air export & import consignments.

  1. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Responsibilities:

  • Understanding and ability to accumulate the required data entry points needed to prepare and route Master Airwaybills and House Airwaybills ensuring company standards are met.
  • Coordinate and oversee the Customs clearance of goods shipped for air export.
  • Acute oversight and participation in the training of other individuals on the team, in the movement of Air Freight, both export and import.
  • Ownership of key accounts, i.e. both US customers, and field offices
  • Participate in high level training of the International Operations Service Center team.
  • Improve processes and create procedures for daily operation of export and import Air Freight.
  • Knowledge of freight gateway operation, export consolidation, import de-consolidation, and breakbulk cargo, and ability to guide others in these operations.
  • Negotiate rates and tariffs with Air Freight vendors.
  • Assist and review development of corporate rate structures.
  • Prepare AES customs export filings.
  • Prepare arrival notice, and support customs clearance set up on air import shipments.
  • Establish in-bond coordination with warehouse for import de-consolidations.
  • Knowledge and ability to create requests for rate correspondence to overseas agents and follow up on those requests.
  • Prepare rate quotations for customers, stations and strategic overseas partners.
  • Update customers and management of shipments in jeopardy of not meeting scheduled delivery commitments, with excellent verbal and interpersonal skills and daily tracking.
  • Enter Proof of Delivery information into relevant transportation software.
  • Prepare invoicing to the customer, field office or overseas strategic partner.
  • Gather and enter job costs, with accuracy and timeliness for billing and posting files.
  • Resolve payment discrepancies and prevent invoicing errors.
  • Monitor weekly tariff updates from our strategic partners abroad.

3. EDUCATION AND INDUSTRY KNOWLEDGE

  • High school diploma/GED and/or related trade certifications required.
  • BA degree in Business, Logistics or International Trade or Transportation & Logistics is an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in International Air Freight Forwarding in air export, and 2 years’ experience in air import preferred.
  • 1+ year work experience in International Air Freight gateway operations, export consolidation, import de-consolidation, and breakbulk cargo.
  • Experience in International freight forwarding operating system e.g. Cargowise, SAPTM, Gateway
  • High level of knowledge of current market conditions and pricing required.
  • Industry knowledge including: import and export regulations and documentation requirements, pricing methodology,
  • Knowledge of TSA, CTPAT and government regulations & requirements is required.
  • Understanding of ISO standards and requirements.
  • GENERAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQURIED
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work well under pressure while multitasking.
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures and provide input for the advancement of corporate policy.
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to multi-task accurately, with accurate attention to detail.
  • Team cooperation and respect is required.
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently in a fast-paced environment, and proceed with objectives with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • WORK SCHEDULE
  • Consistently report to work on time, prepared to perform required duties in an in-office environment.
  • Ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent.
  • Full time schedule of minimum 8 hours per day with flexibility to complete all required job duties and responsibilities.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Regular physical demands: Walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel; use fingers for keyboarding; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
