What does this role look like?
The Logistics Operations Excellence team offers internship positions within the Process Engineering, Process Automation, and Data Science wings of our team. Candidates can expect to be deeply immersed in the project work of one of these teams from day one, typically being paired with a process engineer, RPA developer, or data scientist to help guide their work. Prior interns have worked on projects such as: Creating our Terminal Operations dashboard that tracks our key operational measures like Crane Productivity and Truck Turn Time. Building an API-based data pipeline to source data from our trucking fleet's electronic logging devices to track vehicle utilization. Developing a model that uses shipping container attributes to predict how long it will dwell in the container yard before customer pick-up. Interns paired with this group can expect to learn about key operational processes within the Logistics Business Unit and the technology that is used to drive them, to improve these processes using data and analytics. Successful interns typically have a background in process improvement methodology, data manipulation (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Power BI/Tableau, SQL), and an ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders.
Some of your main responsibilities will be:
  • Immersion in Project Work: Interns will be deeply immersed in the project work of the Process Engineering, Process Automation, or Data Science wings from the beginning of the internship.
  • Collaboration with Experts: Typically paired with a process engineer, RPA (Robotic Process Automation) developer, or data scientist to guide and support their work throughout the internship.
  • Project Examples: Interns may work on projects such as creating operational dashboards, building data pipelines, and developing predictive models using shipping container attributes.
  • Learning Operational Processes: Expect to gain insights into key operational processes within the Logistics Business Unit and the technology used to drive them.
  • Improvement Using Data and Analytics: The focus of the internship is on leveraging data and analytics to improve operational processes within logistics.
  • Skill Development: Successful interns are expected to have a background in process improvement methodology, proficiency in data manipulation tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Power BI/Tableau, SQL), and strong communication skills to engage with various stakeholders.

Overall, the internship provides an opportunity for hands-on experience in process improvement, data science, and automation within the logistics domain.
Qualifications
Must-haves:
• Enrolled in a degree program.
• 0-2 years of general office work experience.
Nice-to-haves:
• Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Outlook and Word.
