Position Summary
- Utilizes a broad knowledge of mechanical, electrical devices, engineering mathematics, manufacturing methods, machine tools, and related mechanical engineering practices to develop equipment construction with established dimensional and weight limits (considering function, cost, fabrication, assembly, and maintenance).
- Prepares two dimensional layouts using current Comtech Systems mechanical CAD software, such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD. Items designed can include printed circuit board outlines, mechanical parts, rack elevations, shelter layouts, communications trailer modifications, equipment chassis, mechanical subassemblies, shipping containers, and cable assemblies.
- Adheres to company and industry standards to ensure mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing integrity of the design. Uses AutoCAD and SolidWorks to analyze tolerances, Center of Gravity calculations, dimensions, and other detailed design data used to fabricate parts. Produces detailed mechanical drawings to indicate tolerances, dimensions, and other detailed design data used to fabricate the parts.
- Implements mechanical design process to achieve a physical design. This includes 3D modeling of necessary electrical and mechanical components, engineering checking, and generation of all required documents used to produce the design.
- Works closely with hardware and manufacturing engineers during the design process to ensure that the physical design accurately reflects and meets the mechanical design and manufacturability requirements. Interfaces with vendors on design and manufacturability issues and component selection.
- Mechanical analysis such as basic loading and stress analysis.
- Supports the engineering documentation process by issuing new part numbers and creating structured BOMs and supportive assemblies for mechanical projects. Generates ECNs to release new parts and updates existing drawings and documentation.
- Creates renderings and supports presentations for preliminary and critical design reviews.
SKILLS DESIRED:
- Must have attention to detail.
- Must be familiar with SolidWorks.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft suite of Office products.
- Must maintain a positive work environment by professional and courteous conduct and communications with others, including supervisors, co-workers, clients and vendors.

Education and Experience
Education/Experience: must complete freshman year of college
Language Skills
Ability to write reports and test procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, engineers, and customers.
