The American Heart Association's Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets of event planning and implementation, volunteer management, and community outreach. Our internships offer the opportunity to gain professional experience with a national non-profit organization, further develop communication and presentation skills, and experience skills in team collaboration and customer service.

Internship Overview:
  • Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week
  • Internship Duration: 1/16/24-5/3/24
  • Hybrid position. Intern must be based in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area and have reliable transportation.
  • Salary: $23.00 per hour

Internship Outcomes:
Individuals participating in the internship program are provided with an opportunity to:

  • Gain experience in the professional world while learning about board management
  • Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others

Responsibilities
Responsibilities include assisting with the development and implementation of fundraising activities and logistics support for the Heart Walk, Cycle Nation, Heart Ball, and Go Red for Women events. This includes assistance with pre-event planning and wrap up.
  • Community event planning and participation
  • Assistance with developing event materials
  • Volunteer Management
  • Company and prospect research
  • Establishing maintaining strong community partnerships
  • Securing and packaging auction from start to finish
  • Heart Walk cultivation

Qualifications
  • Effective oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to work professionally in corporate and non-profit environments.
  • Comfortable making cold calls to donors and potential supporters.
  • Strong leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and comfort with working with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff.
  • Ability to deal professionally in a corporate or non-profit environment and assume responsibility for guiding projects and programs from inception through completion.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.
  • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Ability/willingness to travel locally; have a means of reliable transportation.
  • Required Equipment: Reliable Wi-Fi Connection.
  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs./wk., M-F between the hours of 8:30 am-5 pm.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
