Mississippi Votes (MS Votes) is an organization of intergenerational synergy centering and led by young people invested in the progression of Mississippi. We do this through our programming and outreach strategy that empowers young people, encourages civic engagement, and educates communities on voting rights through place-based, grassroots organizing. Our vision is to cultivate a transformative culture of civic engagement throughout the state of Mississippi.


Background & Overview
:

Over the last 4 years, Mississippi Votes (MS Votes) has become increasingly curious about what it means to organize young people of different faith communities around electoral and political issues. We hope to craft an agenda informed by faith leaders and like-minded stakeholders to explore how implementing this type of engagement could do for our electoral organizing.


The Interfaith Organizing Manager at MS Votes will play a crucial role in fostering collaboration and engagement among diverse faith communities across Mississippi. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to mobilize faith-based organizations and leaders to promote voter education, registration, and turnout. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, strategic thinking, and a passion for building bridges between different communities.

Responsibilities:

Community Outreach:

  • Cultivate relationships with diverse faith communities, religious leaders, and organizations across the state.
  • Organize and attend meetings, conferences, and events to connect with key stakeholders in the interfaith community.
  • Build and maintain base of faith leaders and convene them quarterly
  • Develop new national faith partnerships across the country to assist with the goals of the Voter Empowerment Project (VEP)
  • Work closely with the Voter Services Team to integrate Interfaith Organizing into broader voter mobilization campaigns.
  • Coordinate and lead interfaith initiatives during election cycles and other key civic engagement periods.
  • Collaborate with other community organizations, advocacy groups, and stakeholders to maximize impact and reach a broader audience.
  • Strategic Planning:
      • Develop and implement a comprehensive Interfaith Organizing strategy to increase voter engagement and participation.
      • Collaborate with other departments to align interfaith initiatives with overall organizational goals.
  • Training and Capacity Building:
      • Conduct training sessions and workshops for faith leaders and community members on voter education, registration, and mobilization.
      • Provide resources and support to empower faith-based organizations in their outreach efforts.
  • Data Management:
      • Utilize data and analytics to assess the impact of Interfaith Organizing efforts and make informed adjustments to strategies.
  • Reporting:
    • Provide regular reports on the progress of Interfaith Organizing initiatives to senior management and stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the principles and practices of congregation-based organizing, including grassroots leadership development and coalition-building
  • Well organized individual with effective time management skills that can work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong writing, public speaking, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Personal qualities that include integrity, mission commitment, ability to motivate and inspire
  • Ministered to a congregation and/ or taught Theology
  • Demonstrated competence in multi-faith setting
  • Knowledge of Mississippi history, regions, politics, culture
  • Active participation in a faith-based community

Position Details:

  • Salary: $60,000 Annually
  • MS Votes offers a competitive benefits package covering 50% of employee medical, dental, and vision insurance premiums, and 100% of mental healthcare costs.
  • Monthly Allowance: $160/monthly (Auto/Cell)
  • Location: Jackson, MS or Gulfport, MS
  • 30% Travel Required
