Job Summary

Essential Functions
Representative Duties: Under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor-Early Intervention, job incumbent will be assigned from the following representative duties:
1. Conducts intake appointments for new BH clients, to include reviewing/administering informed consent, orientation to services, releases of information, consents for treatment, screenings, and other relevant intake items.
2. Manages all BH client referrals by accessing and utilizing both the medical and behavioral health electronic health records, as well as utilizing a tracking system to maintain contact with referrals according to TCC policy.
3. In coordination with Clinical Supervisors and the Early Intervention team, attends and/or facilitates daily disposition meetings in order to triage clients into appropriate BH services.
4. Works closely with rural providers such as Behavioral Health Aides and Community Health Aides in order to ensure that intake appointments for village-based clients are coordinated efficiently.
5. Manages all BH waitlists and facilitates a weekly waitlist review with intake staff to ensure that contact(s) with individuals on the waitlist(s) are made in accordance with TCC policy.
6. Schedules comprehensive behavioral health assessments and substance use disorder assessments with appropriate clinical staff.
7. Attends weekly case assignment meetings, in which all assessments are reviewed and clients are assigned to clinical staff/providers.
8. Coordinates with BH case managers to provide external referrals for individuals who are not appropriate for TCC BH services.
9. Completes administrative and clinical documentation in a timely manner in order to maintain program compliance within the guidelines established by Tanana Chiefs Conference, Indian Health Services, the State, Medicaid and other regulatory agencies.
10. Regularly provides program updates/reports at the request of the Rural Clinical Supervisor or Lead Intake Services Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in psychology, counseling, human development, or related field is preferred. Chemical Dependency Counselor or Behavioral Health Counselor certification attained within 1 year.
2. Minimum 2 years of work experience in behavioral health, addictions or similar field. Must be familiar with mental health disorders, substance abuse and addiction, recovery and relapse prevention. Managerial experience preferred.
3. Must have direct patient care experience.
4. Experience working with Native Alaskans preferred.
5. Must pass background check pursuant to Alaska DHSS and federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Experience and education regarding provision of a variety of medical and behavioral health services to adults, children, and adolescents, to include familiarity with: service provision, DSM diagnosis, severely emotionally disturbed children, chronic mental illness, dual diagnosis and integrated treatment for substance abuse and mental illness, treatment planning, treatment coordination, case management, consultation, routine charting, Medicaid regulations, and professional reports. Familiarity with Fairbanks area, Interior Regional, and statewide health services in mental health, medical treatment and substance treatment.
2. Cross-cultural treatment skills and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures and traditions preferred. Familiarity with the culture and needs of individuals of Alaska Native descent.
3. Strong computer skills using electronic health records and scheduling systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
4. Strong verbal communication, analytical and interpersonal skills required.
5. Must have initiative and prioritizing skills.
6. Must work as part of a team providing quality care.
7. Must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to build rapport with patients, while respecting privacy and confidentiality.
8. Must be able to exhibit a good understanding of, or ability to quickly learn, Psychiatric medications, illnesses, treatments and care plans.
9. Knowledge and ability to adhere to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and 42 CFR Part 2 confidentiality regulations.
10. Must demonstrate ethical commitment to mental wellness, recovery and goals of Psychiatry within Tanana Chiefs Conference Health Services.
