| Job Description | Southwest Virginia Community College (Southwest) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, Southwest offers associate's degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. Southwest also has associate's degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice. Southwest Virginia Community College seeks a Mathematics Faculty member to begin August 16, 2024. The successful candidate will provide college-level instruction in a variety of Virginia Community College System mathematics and/or statistics courses via diverse modalities including face-to-face, hybrid, hyflex, and online course delivery. This position reports directly to the Dean of Arts and Sciences and indirectly to the Vice President of Academic and Student Services. The primary responsibility of a member of the teaching faculty in the Virginia Community College System is to provide quality instruction for the students. At Southwest, the major emphasis is on excellent teaching by working with students in classrooms and/or laboratories, through individual conferences, various distance education media, and related activities. Our goal is to help students develop their own interests and abilities to the fullest capacity to become better persons, better workers, and better citizens. Applicants should possess expertise in their field and a desire to work in a collaborative, learning-centered environment focused on equity, student learning, and success. Successful candidates will have an equity mindset in creating, reviewing, evaluating and revising course objectives, instructional materials, and course syllabi. This position is responsible for establishing a campus presence by holding regular office hours, advising students, participating in campus life, and participating in assigned committee work. Classes may be scheduled in the evening and/or off-campus. |
