Description

The School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences is seeking full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure track Instructors in Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Science for a hiring pool. The successful candidate may teach 10 courses per year (5-5). This position may teach in-person, online, or a hybrid schedule. Instructors are pedagogical specialists who bear the primary responsibility for their assigned courses.

The School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences, in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at Arizona State University, is an interdisciplinary mathematical and natural sciences unit that encompasses computing, statistics, applied mathematics, biology, chemistry, and physics; it prides itself in interdisciplinary collaborations among these research areas. Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Teach courses in relevant areas;
  • Prepare syllabus, appropriate course goals and objectives, and lesson plans;
  • Evaluate and select course materials and other teaching materials;
  • Prepare, administer, and grade assignments;
  • Administer written mid-term and/or final exams;
  • Hold regular office hours;
  • Experience with course management systems (Canvas or similar);
  • Experience in both online and in-person teaching;
  • Availability for teaching evening or weekend classes.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in field of instruction (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or Environmental Science) or in a related area, at the time of hire

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including first-generation college students.
  • Experience teaching college-level courses both online and in-person.
  • Experience with course management systems (Canvas or similar).
  • Availability for teaching evening or weekend classes.
