QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree from an accredited institution in education, teaching and learning, or a related area of specialization with graduate coursework in math, science, engineering and a minimum of two years of undergraduate teaching and/or relevant work experience in a higher education institution.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Doctorate in Math Education or other related STEM area with graduate coursework in math, science, engineering.
Responsibilities:
The Instructional Specialist I position is a full-time specialized faculty (non-tenure track) position that will work within the Center for Academic Retention and Enhancement (CARE) and in collaboration with the Department of Mathematics. The focus of this role is on the math instruction (with a particular focus on coordinated lower-level courses) and STEM success for undergraduate students from first-generation, Pell-eligible or limited income backgrounds.
Key responsibilities include:
- Serve as instructor of record for sections of lower level math courses with an emphasis on College Algebra. Other potential course assignments may include Pre-Calculus or Liberal Arts Math at the discretion of the Math Department and CARE.
- Engage in instructional design to enhance student learning which can include curricular and non-curricular based opportunities.
- Collaborate with strategic campus partners to promote STEM identity and success among students affiliated with CARE.
- Providing ongoing student development and success services to undergraduate students in STEM through presentations, workshops, and individual consultations.
- Coordinate services or serve as a resource in a strategic student success emphasis area of the department which may include: graduate education preparation (STEM focus), formative experiences, or faculty-student interactions.
- Serving on Division and department committees as needed.
