Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia's capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. The instructional designer will work in collaboration with teaching faculty and other members of the instructional design team to convert model 15-week online courses to different modalities and course lengths, including the development of high-quality face-to-face instruction. This position will directly support efforts to develop high quality courses in English and Mathematics in particular. The instructional designer will determine and assist in the implementation of appropriate design methodology to provide an active, student-centered learning environment consistent with course objectives and quality assurance standards. The instructional designer will provide instructional support to faculty, staff and students, mentor faculty, consult with instructional units to identify training needs, and recommend training needs to the Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
Master's degree in Instructional Design, Curriculum and Instruction, Adult Learning, or a related field is required.
Considerable knowledge of teaching and learning theories for adult learners, in particular best practice for high quality face to face instruction in the higher education or adult learning environment. Considerable knowledge of instructional design theories and applications. Knowledge of assessment and evaluation. Skill in using learning management systems and how to leverage a learning management system for face-to-face and Hyflex instruction. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products, the Google workspace, synchronous and asynchronous communication applications, multimedia authoring tools, and knowledge of Web 2.0 tools. Demonstrated ability to design, develop and manage courses of multiple modalities and create universally designed educational materials. Experience teaching in the face-to-face environment in higher education or other adult learning. Demonstrated ability in project management, including conception, design, planning, implementation, and in managing multiple tasks and projects. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and to work as a part of a diverse team in a fast-paced, frequently changing environment.
Additional Considerations
Certification in Quality Matters. Currently and progressively responsible experience in instructional design, course review for quality assurance and in mentoring faculty. Teaching experience within academic credit courses in a higher education setting.
