Job Title: Instructional Content Specialist: Texas Reading Initiative Coach K-5
Department: Instructional Services

Reports To: Coordinator of Instructional Services
Primary Purpose
Ensure a coordinated/comprehensive support system for the Texas Reading Initiative grant. Provide
effective leadership to campuses/districts/charter schools. Facilitate appropriate professional learning
and technical assistance to campuses/districts/charter schools.

Education/Certification

Experience
• A minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching experience is required.
• Successful completion of Texas Reading Academies.
• Cohort leader certified (preferred)
• Successful experience in program development.
• Successful experience in training teachers and/or other adults.
• Successful campus leadership experience (Instructional Coach - measuring, managing, and communicating growth performance measures and results.) preferred

General Job Requirements:
• Demonstrate knowledge of job-specific content, the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills or State Guidelines, the state assessment and accountability system, and state initiatives and standards
• Demonstrate technology integration skills as appropriate for the role
• Demonstrate understanding and implementation of differentiated instruction to ensure success for all students
• Ensure a well-articulated and coordinated comprehensive program as well as develops, maintains, and delivers services and professional learning in the use of researched-based instructional practices specific to your content to improve student and district/charter school performance and close
achievement gaps.
• Provide effective leadership to campuses/districts/charter schools
• Facilitate professional learning and technical assistance to campuses/districts/charter schools
• Ensure all grant requirements are fulfilled as assigned
• Have a working knowledge of TEKS Resource System, how it supports districts, and how it applies to their work.
• Know research supporting effective lesson design to support learners and demonstrates an understanding of TEKS/Guideline based instruction
External Services and Coaching:
• Follow procedures for completing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) including:
• Effective communication with the district to evaluate district needs
• Initiate the MOU process
• Ensure MOU has been executed prior to service
• Ensure customized service has been provided
• Demonstrate a skill set of instructional coaching that reflects:
• Researched-based coaching model
• Utilizes the observation and feedback cycle
• Provides support in Professional Learning Communities (PLC) as appropriate
Professional Learning:
• Develop training, products, and services reflecting:
• scientifically based research
• national and state initiatives
• the needs of campus/district/charter schools based on data trends
• content instructional methodologies
• the standards, TEKS, or program guidelines as appropriate
• multiple models of professional learning and appropriate adult learning strategies that actively engage the learner
• Evaluate the impact of training, products, and services for the purposes of continuous improvement.
• Ensure a positive learning environment for participants
• Market sessions to promote attendance
• Collaborate with other experts both internal and external
